"Disgusting. Absolutely horrific." Soyeon told the man sitting opposite as her as he brought up his fork to his mouth, shoving the big, juicy piece of pork into it, chewing loudly for the sole purpose of getting on her nerves, swallowing just as loud.
"You can't talk, you have the worst taste in food. You have stir-fried octopus. Octopus!" Namjoon retorted. "Seriously, who thought that it would be a good idea to take something out of the ocean and eat it..."
"At least my food tastes nice. Yours is just a lump of meat. You need seasoning to make yours taste of anything at all. Mine has plenty of natural flavour and it's delicious." Soyeon argued.Namjoon smirked, bringing his fork up to her face. "Try some, I dare you. I bet as soon as you put this piece of pork in your mouth you will understand why it is so damn tasty." He dangled it right in front of her, but she just stared at him, giving him a look and said 'Get that thing away from me.' Namjoon gave her a disappointed look and did as he was told, eating his piece of pork himself. Soyeon seemed to have sensed his disappointment, as she then took it upon herself to pinch a piece of Namjoon's pork and ate it.
They both just stared at each other, not quite sure how to react. Suddenly, at the exact same time, they both burst into a contagious laughter that could be heard by many people that were sitting near them in the restaurant. They got some dirty looks, as well as some sweet looks, maybe even a few jealous looks here and there. They didn't care. They laughed until they could laugh no more.
"What are we even doing..." Soyeon spat out as she finally started to calm down. Namjoon shrugged, acknowledging how stupid they looked; laughing over nothing, but how funny it was at the same time. Moments like these he really cherished.
"Did you like the pork?"
"I mean...I guess it wasn't completely tasteless." Soyeon answered, hoping to not give him the answer that he wanted.
"See, I told you that it wasn't bad didn't I, Soyeon?" He chuckled. "I suppose it's only fair for me to do the same, so" he reached over and stole a bit of octopus from her plate, "here goes nothing.." Namjoon said as he put the bit of sea creature in his mouth. Soyeon watched him as his current egotistical face switched to a more debating face, as if he was truly considering if he liked it or not. After quite some time of chewing, Namjoon finally swallowed it. "I have come to a conclusion. It is not as good as pork. But it isn't fully awful." She giggled. "Good to know, Joonie."Something about the way Soyeon had just shortened his name made Namjoon feel happy. A new kind of happy, something he'd not really felt before - so he wanted to savour this feeling forever. Later he would. He'd write a song for her.
"Hey, Soyeon.." she looked up at him, "..do you have any passions? What do you study at University?" Namjoon asked her, wanting to know more about the girl he was so curious about. Her eyes lit up, excitement spreading across her face.
"At Uni I study Foreign Languages! It is honestly one of the best decisions I have ever made; I love every second of every lecture." Her smile grew wide. "I've always loved reading and different languages fascinated me..one day I really hope I can become an interpreter. I want to travel around the world using my language skills!" She sounded so passionate about her studies. Namjoon thought it was amazing how she could be that dedicated; he'd never really seen anyone with as much pure passion as Soyeon."That's really amazing, it makes me happy to know that you are so passionate about your studies." He laughed a little, slightly embarrassed at what he just said.
"What about you, Namjoon? You have any passions, or is your life filled with important business stuff?" She asked. He paused for a moment, thinking about his answer."Well, I mean I suppose I kinda like producing music. I write my own lyrics, make my own sounds, I just..I really love it. Ever since I was little I always used to sing whenever I was alone, and when I got older - and more..rebellious.. - I started getting into rap. I still sing but now I mostly like rapping. I find it almost like a stress reliever, it just is so soothing and I get so engulfed in it and.." He paused. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
He looked at her face as she tucked a piece of stray hair behind her ear. "Like what?" She looked puzzled. "You were so..focused I guess? Or maybe you were zoning out, sorry, I do tend to talk a lot sometimes.." He looked away, feeling a little awkward. Her eyes widened. "Oh no, Joonie, not at all! I was so interested in what you were saying I guess I kinda forgot to look like I was paying attention. I was just focusing on your words..." She mumbled at the end. Again, those damn butterflies when she called him that. Why did he feel like that? He was starting to dislike how she made him feel, for reasons he didn't want to think about, but were coming into his head regardless.
Namjoon called over a waiter, asking for the bill. "Oh, are we done?" Soyeon asked, a little disappointed. Namjoon just nodded, not looking at her incase he felt it again. She sighed quietly to herself as the waiter came back and he paid for them both. "I can afford to pay for myself.." she muttered. He smiled, saying how it's okay as he's got lots of money so it wasn't an issue at all, and he stood up, preparing to leave.
"Are you just gonna leave?" Soyeon whispered, her words carrying sadness. He nodded as he turned to leave, having a hard time stopping himself from grabbing her arm and holding her close. Why on Earth did he want to do that to her? He didn't even know her, yet she made him feel things he didn't know he was capable of feeling.
As he turned, he felt his body crash straight into a solid material, and he opened his eyes to the back of a person - a person with an incredibly strong looking back and shoulders. Those shoulders he could recognise anywhere.
"Jin...?"
