Eva
One Month Later
"Eva, please tell me that you're not going to make me wear a pastel purple bridesmaid dress!" Teresa complained before slapping the swatches down on the nurses' desk with a scoff, but I just rolled my eyes and slid the picture back.
"Yes I am, and if you're going truly the best maid of honor as you claimed, you will send swatches to Serena and matching silk ones to the groomsmen for their ties." I smirked, flipping through the chart of the patient that I had just gotten out of surgery with.
"Do you have a spare moment, Eva?" Teresa questioned as I scribbled my signature on countless documents, looking up and nodding at the young girl. "Yeah, why?" I asked, watching her race around the counter as I began to walk towards the conference room where I could spot birthday cake sitting out from Tuck's celebration.
"Two young girls are waiting in the waiting room for you, they said that they needed to speak with you immediately in your office." She reported, making me sigh and nod, wandering into the waiting room, scanning for anyone who could possibly know me. My eyes landed on a pair of young girls with a baby bundled in the blonde's arms, I automatically recognized the both of them from the uterine inversion case.
"Emily Swinton and Alyssa Richards." I called from the post it that Teresa had given me, both of the girls smiling at me before sauntering in my direction, carefully in order to keep the baby asleep.
"So nice to see you again in better circumstances, and what's this little guys' name?" I asked with a smile, Emily smiled softly and handed him over to me nervously, gripping the girl's hand.
"Evan Nathaniel Swinton." She revealed softly, swallowing thickly as she looked over at Alyssa who nudged her firmly. "That's beautiful." I replied, rocking him carefully.
"Thanks, we were hoping to speak with you about an urgent issue that we have, and we were hoping that you could help us?" Alyssa answered, her voice full of worry and uncertainty.
"Of course, you two can step into my office and we can discuss whatever is going on with you two." I smiled, checking my watch and pager momentarily before ushering them into the clear, glass office, passing the baby back to its mother.
"Alright, so tell me what's going on." I began, taking a seat behind my desk that I rarely used while on call. The two girls exchanged glances before facing me.
"Well-." Emily began, but my pager immediately began to buzz, followed by Chris who burst into my office with a worried expression.
"Eva, it's your dad." He whispered, causing my stomach to drop to my toes.
Teresa
My breath hitched as the EMT reported the injuries of the man, the patient who looked eerily familiar, even though I had never seen him in my entire life.
Proctor and Serena began to race the man inside, both Tuck and I following into the triage room, the sound of screams and protest filling the air as they began to put the room on lockdown.
"Dr. Jorge Zambrano, it's Eva's dad." Proctor revealed, causing my stomach to drop to my toes once more. Eva was a spitting image of him, causing my hands to tremble as I assisted both doctors.
