Eva
Three Weeks Later
"Chris! Just tell me what I said on the phone!" I grumbled as he sutured up a young girl's spleen, a smirk forming behind his mask as he worked busily. "Eva...that's something that you don't want to hear." He joked, closing her up with a sigh, both of us stepping away from the body as they began to clean her up for recovery.
"You know what, fine. You're not going to talk then I'll leave you alone. I have better things to do, Teresa isn't here and I intend on spending another Friday with her, and this time I'm going to put my phone in my blender so I can't get to it!" I scoffed, scrubbing my hands vigorously, waiting for him to tell me what I had carelessly told him over the phone.
"Sounds good, tell Teresa I say hi." He winked, drying his hands off before walking out of the room, making me groan and throw the soap in the large industrial sink. "There is a little girl in a trauma room who is asking for you, I guess she had her family in here for a car accident, she refuses to have anyone look at her but you." A nurse said tiredly, clearly reaching the end of her long shift as well.
"I'll go over right now." I sighed, glad to clear my head from the personal issues of my own life.
I sighed and entered into the room, trying to keep my shock at bay when I saw the familiar little girl laying on the table gasping, her knee bent in a mangled fashion, blood soaked her shirt at her midsection and her brown eyes were wide with fear and wet with tears.
"April?" I cried, immediately making my voice softer as I strapped a pair of gloves on and shoved a pair of glasses on my eyes to get a better look at her injuries.
"My leg!" She cried, her body attempting to thrash, causing the other nurses to pull out the strong restraints. "Wait. Put those away." I instructed harshly under my breath, moving towards the little girl's head, gently cupping her cheeks to brush her tears away.
"I know, it'll be okay, I'll take care of you." I said with a nod, winking at her before moving towards her knee. "Should I give her pain medicine?" A nurse asked as I gently wrapped my hands around her twisted kneecap.
"No, it'll take too long, it's just dislocated, I'm going to set it and she'll be fine." I whispered back, looking up at the young girl who was whimpering still.
"Sweetie, can you tell me what happened?" I asked, slowly nodding at the nurses who began to hold her down. "I was playing at the waterfall with my family to help Daniel with his hike, but I slipped and fell into the water, but there were rocks!" She cried, I nodded and swiftly popped her knee back in, resulting in a violent scream, I sighed and nodded at her, gently wrapping it before moving towards her torso, cutting her shirt to reveal a shard embedded under her rib.
"She needs an x-ray and then surgery." I reported, watching her struggle to catch her breath, trying to keep herself covered with her hands.
"Get me a gown please!" I yelled, cutting her old dressings away to rewrap them carefully. A nurse rushed to my side and inserted a needle into the little girl's hand, making a squeal erupt from her lips and her free hand reach up and yank on my occupied wrist.
"April, sweetie, I'm going to need you to let go of me so I can check on you." I explained as Proctor rushed inside to relieve me.
"No! Stay with me!" She cried, I nodded at my boss and watched him step in and work on her bleeding wound.
"April." I repeated, now moving towards her face, gently rubbing her forehead with my thumbs, staring down into her terrified blue eyes. "How's your puppy?" I asked softly, slowly sitting onto the stool that one of the nurses pulled up for me.
