You woke up alone the next morning and you noticed that the room was clean, Charles obviously cleaning up the night before so you wouldn't have to. You showered quickly and got dressed, choosing a skirt that went to just above your knees and a dark grey button up shirt tucked in. Letting your hair dry naturally it fell over your shoulders in loose waves as you walked out, heels clicking against the floor. Opening your mind you found Charles quickly, feeling the smile through your mind as he felt you searching for him and you stopped in front of an open door, seeing him and another man sitting there. They stood up as you walked in, Charles extending a hand to you, beckoning you into the room.
"Good morning Audrey." He greeted, glancing you over quickly, "You look very rested."
"I am thank you." You smiled, sitting down on the chair next to him, crossing your legs.
The men sat down after you did, sharing a look before Charles turned to you, an excited look on his face. You must have walked in on a meeting and you felt a slight flush across your cheeks.
"You're just in time. He was telling me about his project that might help us in our search." Charles exclaimed, turning and gazing out the window.
"And what are we searching for?" you questioned, seeing the round structure in the middle of the field.
"Hank turned that radar installation into a transmitter." The man in the black suit explained, motioning to the round building, "It's designed to amplify brainwaves, enhance your telepathic powers Charles and help us find other mutants for our division."
"So not only could Charles talk to someone but he could be able to talk to everyone?" you said excitedly, realizing the potential of the machine, "You could use it to search everywhere in the world for people like us. People who think they're alone in the world."
"Not just me, you could too." Charles shook his head, making you stop when you realized what he was saying, "It enhances telepathic power Audrey and you are a telepath."
"I'm not a very good one though." You laughed nervously, hand gripping the arm of the chair.
"You will be." He promised firmly, catching you eye, "You have the potential. Imagine being able to find and help people in the situation that you were in. Finding mutants all over the world."
"What if they don't want to be found by you?" a voice asked, your head snapping around so fast you nearly gave yourself whiplash.
"Erik." Charles smiled, as though he was expecting him all along, "You decided to stay."
You couldn't move but you stared up at him, finding those cold, distant eyes staring back. You felt as though only you could see the nerves and the slight warmth coloring them more blue then grey in the morning light. Opening your mind you reached out for him, nearly sighing in relief when you were met with no resistance.
You're here.
You were right. I need help and I couldn't focus no knowing if you were going to be alright.
I will be now.
"If a new species is to be discovered," Erik began, ending the conversation between the two of you and focusing on the other two in the room, "It should be by it's own kind. Charles and I find the mutants. No suits."
"First of all, that's my machine out there." The man exclaimed, pointing out the window, "Second of all, and much more importantly, this is Charles' decision. And Audrey's. They're fine with the CIA being involved. Isn't that right?"
