Quick note: This sort of carries on from one of my previous short stories, Forever Yours.
------------------
She saw him in the library sitting by himself. He was busy studying. This was the perfect opportunity to talk to him. If she didn't go now, she would never talk to him. And she would never be able to move on. It took all her strength and courage to walk up to him. As she did, memories of him and her came flooding back. She fought back the tears and sat next to him.
"Hey TJ..." She forced a smile.
He looked at her and gave her a genuine smile. He put his work aside to talk to her. She felt the butterflies in her stomach, something that usually happened when she saw him.
"Hey Lucy," He smiled.
She missed that deep voice of his. Her friends hated it but she loved it. A smile formed as she remembered how her friends used to point out every flaw in him. All to make her see how he wasn't worth it. He wasn't worth her love. Yet she was the one feeling as if she wasn't good enough for him.
She thought of a million ways to say it, but there was only one way. She had to just come out with it.
"I'm sorry," She said.
TJ looked at her puzzled. He had no idea what was happening. She took his confusion as a sign to elaborate.
"I'm sorry for ever bothering you. I shouldn't have talked to you and just come into your life like that. I was stupid." She explained.
TJ looked at her shocked. He didn't know she felt like that.
"Don't be sorry when you've done nothing wrong... Has something happened? Has someone said something?" He asked.
"No... I'm just sorry..." And with that, Lucy left the library.
Tears rolled down her cheek and she wiped them away.
This is the last time I'll ever cry for you, TJ.
This was it.
This was the end.
She would never speak to TJ again. She did not deserve this heartbreak. She deserved better.
It would take time to trust another person enough to have a relationship but at least she was over TJ. It meant that there was a possibility of it happening, even if it would take time.
After that, she felt free. He hadn't invaded her thoughts anymore and she didn't want to. She was over him.
'So long, Superman.'
