its 3:37 am and i have not slept at all. ive been thinking about you.
listening to music.
thinking of washington.
twanging of old guitar strings.
lightly scented vapor on the air from the dishwasher, our cups of coffee and tea, lobster etouffee bubbling on the stove, wet grass and dirt from the rain with gentle thunder.
always twilight outside, never light, never dark (except at night).
cushions and blankets on our couch, our canines curled up amongst them all.
you, beautiful thing, reading in the hammock on the porch, sheltered from the rain.
candles in almost every room, though some, most, unlit.
dust on our bookshelves, but not too much.
my knitted sweaters, some of which claimed by you, lying folded or neatly heaped by the fireplace, warming, becoming quietly dusted with the smell of burning wood, like a campfire, just not too strong at all.
a few pairs of our shoes, resting by the door, soggy from a recent escapade through puddles and mud and wet grass.
a few framed pictures on the wall. nothing too special. just good times. memories that were conveniently provided with a camera for capturing.
a couple six packs in the fridge, not to be consumed in one night, but to be enjoyed across several.
the dog bowls leaning against the drying rack on the counter, freshly cleaned but not yet put back on the floor.
a jar of peanut butter lay mistakenly forgotten next to the stove, a used butter knife lying atop the jar.
a small assortment of tea bags in a tin resting on top of the fridge.
the faint hum of the washer or dryer going, cleaning and warming socks and sheets.
a few books sitting, pages of one ajar, on our coffee table where feet are placed, beverages are set, sex is had. a deck of cards on the mantle above the fireplace, along with old cards from friends for easter a year ago. a few dvd disks in cases laying halfway upon the cards, a musical, an action movie, a comedy.
an unused ashtray keeping the dvds from falling.
