Mike's POV:

I open the closet door, seeing El on the floor with her knees against her chest and her head in her arms.

She looks up, and I can see tears shining on her face. "Mike." she whispers.

"Is everything okay?" I ask, worried.

She nods.

"Are you sure?"

She nods again, smiling a little. "Promise."

El got up from the floor after I reached out a hand to help her. I was nervous; I'd never been put in a situation where a girl was crying and I wanted to comfort her. She just had this kind of broken look in her eyes and I could feel my heart squeeze.

"El?" I asked hesitantly. "Are you sure you're okay?"

She looked up at me and tried to smile, but it came out as more of a grimace. Her chin wobbled, and she started full on sobbing. My hands started getting clammy and I exhaled heavily.

I head towards her and grab her hand, guiding her towards my bed and letting her lay down. I gave her one of my blankets to cover herself with, her eyes still pouring out tears. Little whimpers would come out every little while, and I stood there, not sure what to do.

I went to get her something to eat, anything to make me seem useful.

"Mike."

I turned around at the sound of her whispering my name, my fingers on the doorknob. "Yeah?"

"Stay," her voice broke.

I nodded, heading back. She grabbed my hand and pulled me down until I was sitting. She scooted up so that her head was against my side. I could already feel her tears wetting my shirt, but it didn't matter. I put my arm around around her and let her cry.

It took her a while to calm down, but when she did she sat up cross-legged and genuinely smiled at me. "Thank you," she said softly.

I smiled back at her. "I'm gonna call Dustin and Lucas okay? Don't worry, I made them promise not to tell anyone."

Eleven nods.

I grabbed my super com from my bedside table and went to contact Lucas. "Lucas, it's Mike. Do you copy? Over."

Static for a few seconds before a response came in. "Yeah, I copy. What's up? Why didn't you come to school? Over."

"I'll explain everything later, just get over here, stat. And bring Dustin. Over and out." I shoved down the antenna and put the com back onto my nighstand, waiting.

"I'll make some eggos meanwhile we wait for them to get here. Does that sound good?"

El smiles, nodding again. I smile back, going to make them. "Okay, stay here. I'll be right back."

I come back, handing her two toasted eggos and one for myself. She practically inhaled them. She was probably really hungry after crying that much. I offered her mine since I wasn't that hungry anyway, and she took it, blushing the tiniest bit.

When she was done with that, she pulled the blanket I had given her over her legs, sitting cross-legged on my bed. I could finally hear Lucas and Dustin coming up the stairs.
