Chapter 33: Softly (Joey)

CHAPTER 33

(JOEY'S POV)

She spoke the words as softly as petals against the skin of  a human. As softly as the call of a young mockingjay and as sweetly as sugar on strawberries. " I cant come with you guys, Im sorry but whe worst comes to worst we will have to fight whether we like it or not and if we don then the capitol will have the pleasure" Lizzie looked lost but she walked over to Annie and placed her hand on Annie's shoulder. "Whatever happens, I want to see you after this has all blown over ok?" Annie and smiled weakly as if the purpose of life had completely disappeared from her head. No words could persuade her at this moment that life was worth living. Without another word she disappeared into the trees and into the sunset that reflected a golden glow off the stream. Lizzie looked at the floor. Two of the people that meant the most  to her had been ripped from her grasp. She was the strongest person I knew. When everything I was familiar wih had been taken from me at a very young age all I wanted to do was end it and not have to think about anything anymore but ni. Lizzie wasnt giving up. She was using it as an exuse to stay alive for the ones she loved. Moving on the moon lit up the path that we walked down. We didnt know what was going to happen next but we did know that if something didnt happen soon then the game makers would force a fight to go down. As I was thinking about this the soud of another cannon flooded the sky. The illuminated image of the other tribute from district 4 appeared in the sky with the Youtube games anthem playing int he background. The brother of the triute the careers had brutally murdered. A flash back to the scene made me feel the warmth of Yammy's body next to mine and her arm linked with mine. As I came back to reality Meghan smiled at me. Her smile caused my heart to skip a beat it was so beautiful. I remembered the chat that Lizzie had given me back in the clearing before we had rescued Annie "You need to show her the love you hold in your heart" Taking these words of wisdom into account I got up and moved next to where Meghan was laying. Lay next to her and wrapped her in my arms feeling the steady beat of her heart against my chest. This was where I wanted to be. Of course they had to interupt this perfect moment...
