CHAPTER 9
(MEGHAN'S POV)
The tribute parade was a blast and me and Joey definitely made district 6 proud, as well as gaining a few subscribers. I hope. After the parade Joey and I were taken to where we would be staying for the next week before we went into the arena... that is if we went into the arena... When we got to our living space I was in dire need of rest but Haymitch was desperate to go through this year’s tributes with us to look for potential allies. We all sat down at a screen in the main room and replayed the reaping episode that was broadcast to the capitol when the tributes were chosen. I didn't really want to know the back stories of all the people that were going to die in a few weeks but Haymitch seemed adamant to analyse them individually and find their strengths and weaknesses. We came to district 1 first, the gaming district. A boy with a curly mop of brown hair walked onto the stage. His name was Joel and he didn't look particularly muscled. In fact he looked scared, especially when the female tribute was called to join him on stage. I didn’t want to watch but I forced myself to. They were boyfriend and girlfriend. My heart ached for them. A girl with light pink hair and an unnaturally pale face joined Joel on the stage. Her name was Lizzie or LDShadowlady to YouTube. She fell into his arms and he caught her. They were both in floods of tears as the district cheered for them. Haymitch was analysing them both " The gaming district are normally tough competitors but I’m not sure as their love for each other may come between them and the competition" He said not batting an eyelid at the heart breaking stuff that was happening on screen. They reached for each other as the peacekeepers separated them to their rooms for their goodbyes. I felt a tear start to form in my eye but I quickly pushed it down. Obviously it wasn’t quick enough as Haymitch commented on it. “If you start to feel too much for these other tributes then you are going to be a wreck in the arena" he said fast forwarding though to district 2. I stared at the floor to hide my blushing cheeks. " District 2" Haymitch announced " Collabs, so these guys are used to doing challenges and facing their fears, they would’ve trained for this" He said as if he was trying to scare us. "They look strong" Joey said, studying them. The male was called Sawyer and the female was Annie. They looked like a pair of born fighters. We moved on hastily as I knew Haymitch was envying their mentor. I hated this. Looking at real people and judging them. District three was the humour district which meant they were likely to have a lot of subscribers that were willing to donate. I couldn’t concentrate much on this district as I knew what was coming next. All I got was that their names were Dan and Yammy and I was pretty sure those names weren’t going to stay in my head for long. "District 4" Haymitch said with a slight hint of pity in his voice. There was only a slight hint but it was there for sure. I had to force myself to watch this clip. “Zoe and Joe Sugg" Haymitch said. They were stood on the stage in floods of tears and then the camera cut to their mother. I couldn’t take anymore. Without a word I got up and left the room. I didn’t even stay to see district 5. I felt hot tears stream from my eyes but these tears weren’t tears of sadness oh no they were tears of pure anger. They took 12 kids away from everything they love to have the fight in an arena of death for the amusement of the people in the capitol. I slammed my door and locked it. I expected it eventually but after about 10 minutes I heard Joey unlock the door from the outside. He walked over to me and lay next to me. We said nothing. We just sat and prayed for the families and the tributes of the YouTube games...
