It had been two weeks since he had been thrown behind iron bars and so far everything seemed fine. He had people whom he could call his friends, he had a nice roommate- jailmate, rather, but he liked to call it roommate and most importantly, he had decent food to munch on.
''Not gonna lie, it's not horrible,' Jooheon commented. Kihyun had met him a few days back at the yard. The man had an intimidating narrow eyes that looked a huge lot like a snake's eyes. But honestly, once he smiled, the 'scary' impresson broke down immediately. He had been fighting with a guy twice his size. Thankfully Minhyuk, who surprisingly knew Jooheon very well, had saved him.
In the past two weeks Kihyun had met five people: Minhyuk, Hyungwon, Hyunwoo, Hoseok and Jooheon.
Minhyuk, who Kihyun had gotten to know better after ther first meeting, was very friendly and also incredibly energetic. His mouth never rested: he always had something to talk about, be it gossip or a funny story. But there was something about Minhyuk that Kihyun couldn't quiet understand. Something a bit scary, a bit creepy. Whenever the talk came to his past, his bright personality would disappear and it would leave a unnerving person behind. Minhyuk intrigued Kihyun but truthfully, he didn't want to find out whatever Minhyuk had in store.
Hyungwon was, much like Minhyuk, a very interesting character. But unlike Minhyuk, it didn't come from a reverse personality but rather his dullness. If his presence was to be compared to a light, it was so dim that it was barely noticeable but it came to life in the darkness- at least Kihyun guessed. He was so monotone and unemotional that Kihyun was suspecting him to be some kind of pyschopath.
Hyunwoo, who was known by the name 'Shownu' in the prison, was undeniably awkward but they liked him so much they didn't mind. They acted like he was their leader. The man had told them that he had gotten in for beating up five people and accidentally killing two but Kihyun felt there was something worse behind it.
Hoseok, whom Kihyun had stopped calling Wonho after a week of knowing him, was a bit dumb and naive . Despite his appearance, his behaviour was often innocent and it made people who knew him want to protect him which, Kihyun knew, was a stupid urge considering they were in prison and no one was to trust each other. Hyunwoo had told them that Hoseok and him were in prison for very similar reasons: they had worked in the same place except Hyunwoo had been the boss of whatever they were.
Jooheon was very fierce and excited most of the time. He flew from one place to another, got into fights, talked loudly, shouted, laughed loudly. Everything he did was loud. His personality itself was loud. He had been innocent, Jooheon, but since he had anger problems he had gotten angry in court and had ended up beating up the judge and leaving him with a broken body.
''Yeah, it's not as bad as yesterday,'' Hyungwon muttered. ''They could have put shit on our plate and honestly, it would have been better.''
''That broccoli was not broccoli, I'm telling you,'' Hoseok cut in. ''It was disappointment.''
''Faeces,'' Minhyuk giggled and Hyungwon rolled his eyes.
''Childish much?''
''I feel like I'm at high school or something,'' Khyun said. ''None of the guards really mess with us. It feels normal to be here.''
''It better,'' Hoseok chuckled. ''You'll be here for the next thirty years.''
''There's always a possibility of getting out earlier though,'' Hyunwoo said, mouth full with cereal. ''If you have a good lawyer, that is.''
''Too bad I poisoned him,'' Kihyun laughed and they all chuckled. They talked about this and that until a voice suddenly cut in.
''Hey guys,'' the deep voice rumbled. He knew that voice.
Kihyun didn't turn back to look at him.
He didn't want to.
As the others said their greetings, his wide eyes stayed fixed on his biscuits. He couldn't get a grasp on what was happening- it was too sudden. Memories flooded his brain suddenly and Kihyun felt like crying. He could recognize that deep voice anywhere. It was the voice that haunted him in his nightmares, the voice he had added more months to his calendar for to escape from because a year wasn't enough to forget it.
''You...''
He stared at him as the man took his place in front of Kihyun. He looked surprised but it seemed like a pleasant surprise he was experiencing. He smirked.
''Kihyun.''
''Changkyun.''
