•Y/N: Your Name
•E/C: Eye ColorLaurence's POV:
It's been a week since I've fallen from the Heavens; a week that I've spent entirely with the human girl I've sworn to protect at all costs; a week full of nothing but pure bliss. This is what I've dreamed of for so many years. I still have trouble comprehending how real this is. I've learned much about my little human, Y/N, during our time together. The room we've been staying in, which I had previously thought to be hers, actually belongs to this missing sister of hers, Catherine.
My guess is that she feels closer to her by sleeping here rather than her own room. Turns out, I was also correct in my assumption of her being a foster child. I've listened in to a few phone calls made by her foster father, Darin, finding out that way. I admire Y/N so much for her dedication to praying to our father above for the safe return of her sibling and how she always tries to make Darin smile. She's drawn him happy pictures, asked the man to play games with her, even told him jokes that I only partially understood, but were funny nonetheless, and, yet, the man never once smiled at her.
She was always downhearted when she failed, but never gave in. Y/N is definitely a special, little girl. My silver orbs watch the female beside me closely as she plays with a peculiar, cube-shaped puzzle. I believe she called it a Rubik's Cube. I can't help but smile at her concentrated expression as she manages to get one side of the cube completely blue.
'I wonder if it's difficult? I'd like to give it a try. Perhaps when she leaves the room? Such a shame I can't let her know of my presence...or can I?' My eyes widen at the realization that I'm no longer bound by Heaven's laws. Revealing myself will not result in punishment. I can do whatever I wish.
Y/N sighs in defeat while setting the puzzle on the mattress, where we sit, before lying on her back to stare at the ceiling in boredom. The soft tapping of rain pounding on the windows fills the silence with its peaceful rhythm. It's been storming for the past two days, and my human is getting restless. Her foster father pays her little attention and most games she plays are meant for two. There's little to do. Hesitantly, I reach for the Rubik's Cube and bring it to me, causing the child's E/C eyes to widen as she sits up and stares at the object. I hold in my laugh at her surprised expression before attempting the puzzle for myself. It must look like it's floating to her.
'Let's see...I believe the goal is to get the colors matched up on all sides.' I begin twisting the cube with my eyes narrowed in concentration. Meanwhile, I can't help but notice that the girl staring at me in curiosity from the corner of my eye, well, not me, the cube. I don't see what's so difficult about it. I had it completed in under a minute.
Still, I smile at my accomplishment and present the finished puzzle to the fair maiden. She flinches back when I hold it out to her before carefully removing it from my hands, softly brushing her fingers against my palm. Y/N examines the cube in amazement, making me feel proud. Her eyes then dart around the room, likely trying to find my location.
I assist her by gently placing a hand on her shoulder. I felt a chill roll down my spine upon making contact. I could've appeared to her, but I didn't want to frighten the poor girl. I feel her tense slightly under my touch as her eyes travel to her left, where I sit. Very slowly, she raises her small hands to my arm, feeling her way up my armor-covered arm to my shoulder.
I can feel my heart pounding faster in my chest as her hands travel up my neck to my cheek with a look of intrigue on her youthful features. I take my own hand off her to softly place it over the one she's using to cup my face. When she slips her fingers away, I find myself missing her warmth. I don't force her to bring her hands back, though, even when I want to, since I know she has a lot to process. Y/N looks back and forth between me and the puzzle I solved, which now rests on the bed before getting up and walking out of the bedroom. My eyes widen in surprise.
