Author's POV:
________________________________________________________________
Y/N shuffles nervously in her seat, wondering if her angelic companion was doing all right in the principal's office as class went on. She had never seen Laurence so mad before, so it was only natural to worry. Juliana wasn't the only one frightened by the angel's shouts; the entire room felt the effects of his fury. Even now, she could see a few hands trembling uncontrollably as the students write down notes, and Laurence had left a while ago. Soon, class would be over, and she hoped that he would return to her shortly. In an instant, her prayers were answered when a pair of warm arms wrapped around her from behind. The girl nearly let out a shriek because she didn't expect such a thing to happen, but she was quickly filled with relief as her fingers ran over the invisible creature's arm to reassure herself it was him. Her heart continued to hammer in her chest, though, it gradually calmed as the angel spoke.
"Forgive me, Sweetness. I did not mean to frighten you," he whispers softly into her right ear as her pencil stops writing, though, she still held it firmly in her hand. She did not greet him with a smile, however; in fact, she trembled slightly in his hold, still unnerved by his outburst from earlier, even though it wasn't directed towards her. Laurence frowns at this as his heart sinks with guilt, knowing he was the cause of her distress. "I apologize for my behavior earlier. As you can imagine, I was very upset." By a smidgen, his arms strengthen their hold on the human as his chin rests on her soft hair, the scent of her shampoo filling his nose. "I could not stand idly by. What she did was wrong."
"It's okay," she mutters, but still didn't give that forgiving smile he sought after. She couldn't help but recall her sister's words. Before, she could never imagine Laurence hurting even a fly, but the energy he had given off earlier made her doubt. Is he really as dangerous as Catherine thought? "Please, don't ever yell like that again. It was scary."
"Scary? Oh, Sweetness, I am so sorry. I swear, I will never yell in front of you again. I was too caught up in the moment is all. Please, don't be frightened of me. I couldn't bear it if you were." Y/N takes in a deep breath and lightly nods her head before leaning back against the creature's chest. Her eyes take a quick look around to make sure no one is noticing her talking. Thankfully, everyone seemed too busy.
"Did you get in trouble?" She asks. Laurence took a moment to answer. Mr. Lavoie had tried to punish him, but that would be unjust. No, he could not punish the angel for doing what was right. His words were meaningless. He had no power over him.
"No, I explained everything to the principal and left. I did nothing to warrant punishment. I cleaned that horrid scent out of your locker too. That's what took me so long. I didn't mean to keep you waiting."
"Thank you." Again, her hand rubs the length of the angel's arm as her eyes shut for a moment to enjoy the familiar warmth that came from the creature's hugs. Silver eyes search the classroom as his head lifts off of hers, and they narrow upon landing on a particular student whose face was paled and drenched with nervous sweat. Her body quaked, leaving her handwriting messy on the page she wrote upon. His jaw tensed as his teeth clenched.
He did not know if the teacher had spoken to her yet or if this was a result of his anger, but it wasn't enough. Her fear was not enough to pay for the price of her sin. Jealousy is a sickly beast that clings to the soul like a fly to shit, and it would never be satisfied. Laurence had sensed many tainted souls in the halls, but she made the mistake of messing with the human he guards, and as a result, she had made a powerful enemy.
"I will make sure she doesn't get away with this."
"You're sure it was her?" Y/N asks softly. It wasn't like they had any proof. She always trusts his word, but at the same time, she wanted to be completely sure of the situation before placing the blame on anyone.
"Positive."
"Ms. Bordeaux, perhaps you'd like to share with the class what you're muttering about under your breath." Instantly, the girl's head perked up, and her face paled at the teacher's command.
"N- No, sir! Sorry, sir!" The man shakes his head, but decides to let it go before returning to the lesson. She relaxes the moment he looks away as Laurence softly presses his lips against the shell of her ear, unknowingly sending an involuntary tingle down her spine.
"She won't get away with this. At least you're sister had the right mind to leave you alone for the most part, but I believe this pest will want to keep hurting you. I won't let that happen. I will not let anybody hurt you." Y/N gulps discreetly before quietly asking,
"What will you do?"
"Shh, don't speak or else you'll get into trouble." She silences and nods her head lightly while awaiting his answer. She didn't want to get caught talking again. Laurence raises his hand to her face to gently caress the supple, S/C flesh of her cheek with the backs of his nimble fingers, hoping that it would calm her. The tension he smelled in her soul alerted him of her fears, and he didn't want her fretting about this. She had no reason to fear as long as he was around. No harm would ever come to her with him by her side.
"I don't want you worrying about this, just trust me to take care of you. I will not stand for this. I will not let her hurt you."
