MADDIE WAS EXCITED THAT she was helping out vanessa, but also nervous. what if she messes everything up and joey will end up not liking vanessa? the girl is capable of ruining people's lives. i'm pretty sure she can ruin mine. maddie thought to herself.

"wait, i hate myself for asking this but why can't you get joey on your own?" questioned maddie, who was slightly scared vanessa would go off on her after.

vanessa sighed. "do you not want to help me now, or?"

"no, i do! it's just that, you're vanessa smith. you're the most popular and prettiest girl in our school i just thought you wouldn't need my help," maddie complimented the girl, sorta sounding like a fangirl.

vanessa was flattered but didn't show it. "yeah, well, i already tried. like. so. many. times. he's just not interested in me." the girl frowned, the first time maddie ever saw her frown. "but he's the most perfect boy, i'm so in love maddie, please help me."

maddie almost gasped as the excitement hit her. "you know my name!"

vanessa raised an eyebrow. "well yeah, everyone knows who you are. you're not like a loser or anything."

maddie fangirled hardcore. "oh my god. really? like hearing this from you, this is great!"

"yeah, i know." vanessa rolled her eyes. "now, can we go to the cafeteria? it's weird how we're having this conversation in the bathroom..."

maddie thought about it for a moment. what about steph, i can't just ditch her? this what was maddie wanted for so long that she just couldn't waste time thinking about steph. she also wanted to show steph that she could become friends with vanessa. so she reached her decision,

"yeah, sure."

vanessa grinned and the two walked out of the girl's bathroom. vanessa brought maddie to her table only where they could sit. 'they' meaning the oh so popular group. maddie recognized the two other girls, luna blaise and loren gray.

"luna move over," vanessa said a little harshly. maddie didn't want to cause a scene so she tried telling vanessa it was okay, but vanessa ignored her.

luna's jaw dropped. "wh-what? this is my seat."

"and this is my table so move over. maddie needs somewhere to sit." luna did as vanessa said and maddie took her seat. it felt so weird and awkward, but maddie did as told.

loren laughed. "so you're the girl who got jilia together? you're such a legend!"

maddie nodded vigorously. "oh my god thank you!"

vanessa interrupted. "yes loren and she's going to help me get with joey."

loren's eyes lit up. maybe they were sorta rude, but they cared about each other. luna was happy with it too and by the looks of it, she got over maddie taking her spot real quick.

"got any plans?" luna faced maddie. "joey shouldn't be anyone else but vanessa."

maddie didn't know they were that serious about this, but apparently they were. but that didn't creep maddie out one bit since she was still in shock that she was talking to them.

she also felt a tad bit famous considering that they knew who she was.

"well i can just do a little convincing and get on with it," maddie started to speak. "i'll start by talking to joey tomorrow."

the girls nodded. luna and loren weren't that smart and vanessa trusted maddie, which seemed odd because they just met. they sat there in silence for a while until maddie decided she was going to go back to steph.

"i'll talk to you guys later." maddie got up and started to leave. "i'll get him to like you in no time, so expect to be asked out tomorrow. bye everyone."

they all smiled. i knew they weren't evil! maddie cheered in her thoughts as she walked back to where steph was. she was stabbing her fork in her food, clearly mad that she had to sit alone for half of lunch.

it was silent when maddie sat down, steph wasn't saying anything.

"hey ste-" maddie tried breaking the silence.

"seriously? you ditched me this whole time to sit with vanessa! you could've at least invited me." steph dropped her fork, practically throwing it. it took maddie by surprise.

"i'm sorry, wow, but at least i came back," maddie replied harshly. "but i told you i could do it. i told you, i told you!"

"why were you even over there?"

maddie thought about it for a moment. "i'm playing matchmaker and vanessa over there, is one of my clients!"

steph rolled her eyes. "well have fun. but why can't she get the guy on her own? has she forgotten that she's vanessa?"

"no clue!" maddie responded. "but oh well, i'll make it happen."

steph shrugged. "i doubt it."

"you always doubt me."

"i know. but who does she like?" queried steph.

"joey birlem."
