IT SEEMED LIKE EVERYONE at school was talking about the party, even freshmen who weren't even there. everyone sure was getting a kick out of greg getting punched by joey. and because vanessa hired greg to kiss maddie and everyone knew about it, the school started to despise the two.

vanessa started to lose friends and popularity, and greg just became a nobody after joey and his group dropped him.

lucas felt awful for knowing about greg's plans so he took it into his own hands to apologize. joey understood him, although it felt awkward, he accepted his apology.

maddie and joey still had a thing, but it wasn't official just yet. he couldn't think of the perfect time to ask her to be his girlfriend. she could care less, she just wanted to be with him so badly.

vanessa's friends soon became maddie's friends, and just like she hoped for, she became popular. even if she already was at the start of the year, but now she sure moved on up. ever since the party, her life had changed, but in the end, she realized that her life was fine either way. she had joey and that was all that mattered.

maddie walked into school on friday morning, looking around for joey. she was always excited to see him, it always made her happy, so she practically ran through the school hallways just to find him.

he wasn't at his locker, and she was starting to wonder where he was. in the moment, she seemed obsessed with him, and maybe she was. but it was only because she liked him so much, and the feeling sure was mutual.

she then shrugged and went in route to her homeroom class. all of a sudden, she found joey. there he was, standing in the middle of the hallway. a bunch of people were crowding around, which confused her.

what is going on? she asked herself. joey then walked up to her and grabbed her hand. her heart started beating rapidly again, and her confusion turned into a strong feeling of love, even if love wasn't a thing at such a young age.

"maddie," he started to say as she nodded. "i really like you, you know that."

that caused her to grin. she wanted to say something but she didn't want to interrupt him, so she just replied nonverbally.

"so, will you be me girlfriend?" he asked her in the sweetest way possible. her heart fluttered.

"of course!" she almost yelled. her body overcame with happiness.

then someone in the crowd said, "what are they getting married or something? what's the big deal?"

maddie and joey both laughed together since they agreed. "true," they said in unison.

"i didn't want to text you because that'd be weird, right?" joey chuckled and maddie nodded.

"either way," she started. "i'd still be happy, and i'd still say yes."

they couldn't stop smiling. joey started to lean in, and so did maddie. their lips were centimeters apart when a teacher interrupted them. just their luck!

"no public affection in the hallways!" she yelled and then ordered the students around. "get to class! get to class!"

the crowd, which maddie didn't even understand why they were there in the first place, broke up and then left. the noise died down and it was just joey and maddie.

"i should probably get to homeroom," maddie started to laugh.

joey nodded. "you can't be late!"

everything joey did caused maddie to smile. "you're right."

"see you in first period?" he asked.

"i'll see you in first period." she quickly pecked his cheek and then started to walk off to her homeroom class.

and through all of the craziness that could've happened in less than a month, joey couldn't have been more grateful that it happened. sure, some things were pretty messed up, but joey wouldn't change them. he was happy, finally.

and it was all thanks to the girl who just wanted to become popular by matchmaking. joey couldn't help but feel glad that matchmaking plan failed, or else he wouldn't be with the girl of his dreams.

"oh wait, maddie!" he ran up to her and stopped her for a second.

"yes?" she turned around and looked at him.

"remember when you told me that you knew someone who liked me?" joey asked. "in first period. you remember, right?"

she nodded and smiled. "yes, of course. what about it?"

"the girl you were talking about," he started to say.

she raised an eyebrow.

"i was hoping it was you."
