At some point Jack had been pulled back into the house once the asphyxiant gas was expelled from the area. He woke up slowly with his head pounding and his chest aching, but mostly noticed what was laying on top of him protectively. His fingers trailed through Mark's hair gently until the Feral looked up and stared at Jack curiously with a small grunt.
"You're stronger than I thought," Jack whispered with a dry throat. "Thank you for saving me... again." Mark rested his chin on Jack's chest and watched the Irishman sleepily as he stretched out the muscles in his arms.
"Oh good, you're awake," a soft mumble came from the corner of the room, causing Jack to jerk in response and crane his neck to look. The pregnant woman sat there curled up, glaring hatefully at the both of them. "Relax, I'm not gonna hurt you," she grumbled. "Just... Your pet won't let me through the door. I've been trying the last couple days to leave."
"Couple days?" Jack repeated, dumbfounded. He slept that long?
"Yeah so if you could like let me out, I won't bother y'all again." Her face softened almost to a pleading look, and Jack's heart, instead of feeling sympathy for her began to burn angrily. He sat up carefully while Mark huddled into the corner of the couch, and leaned towards her menacingly.
"And what if I say no?" Jack whispered, glaring at her.
"Don't know why you'd let me hang around here after what happened," the woman grumbled.
"Well why would I free you back into the arms of whatever society is left out there? Not only could you be a danger, but everything else is a danger to you what with being... pregnant and all." He gestured to her stomach.
"I take offense to that, what if I was just fat?" She sniffed.
"No one can be just fat in this day and age, it's illogical that if a fat person survived that they've stayed fat, unless they're sitting in a comfy house on a pile of cash to save them from running around the outside world," Jack pointed out as he gestured around him. "Or they have the strength of Hercules to stay so fit and yet be so big-"
"Okay okay I get it," the woman snapped. "Yeah I'm pregnant. So what of it?"
"Listen, I just had to bury a dead baby a while ago, I'm not really ready to allow another to die because somebody wants to just run away."
"So you just want me to chill with you in this house until I pop out this kid?" She laughed harshly.
"I mean... Don't see why you'd be so against it. You guys came here in the first place for shelter."
"Yeah, yeah we did because we were scared for our lives, and you ended up proving you're more violent than anything else out there!" She started to stand in anger until Mark's soft growling intimidated her back into her previous position.
"Me? That's laughable," Jack chuckled. "I didn't even do anything, it was all Mark. And you don't think what you guys did was wrong but God forbid I defend myself? So if I punched you in the face and you hit back, that'd make you in the wrong? Shite I'm all for it as long as I get to smack a bitch."
"Well that's just completely inappropriate, haven't you heard to never hit a woman?" She demanded, astonished.
"Again, twisting things so I'm the one in the wrong," Jack smirked. "You're just a delight."
"Well I don't condone violence-"
"So why did you hang out with all those people whose first thoughts were to shoot randomly at somebody without question? You guys do realize if you had asked for help first and I said no, at least I'd be closer, so that you could without warning murder me and take over the house like that. I mean Mark would have still butchered you all but..." Jack shrugged.
