"Shite, shite," Jack mumbled over and over as he rummaged through the fridge full of empty wrappers and foil. "What the Hell happened?!"
Yazzy slowly woke from her spot in one of the chairs and yawned quietly with her hand on her belly. She stood and headed to the kitchen with a frown when she realized what had woken her up, and asked, "What's going on?"
"Someone ate the rest of the meat! Even the frozen bodies in the back!" Jack groaned and tossed empty bags all over the floor in an attempt to look for anything that was hidden. All of the pans had been dirtied at some point in order to cook food and yet they were all room temperature so there was no tell-tale sign that they had been used very soon, but it was still a possibility.
However, Jack's thoughts didn't automatically wander in accusations towards Yazzy even with the likelihood of her being able to do it; he turned his head to look on the floor where Mark lay in the living room with his eyebrow raised. The Feral was snoring soundly and Jack swore his stomach was slightly extended like he just ate at a buffet. This irritated Jack, but also confused him. How'd he get in the fridge and freezer, and why eat everything?
Yazzy must have been reading his mind because she said softly, "He's starting to learn..."
"Yeah but like... He's never eaten this much before. He eats a handful and that's all he ever usually wants." Jack mumbled.
"I don't know... you'd think he'd have done it long before this to regain his strength, but not out of the blue." It had been almost a month since Mark had gotten shot and he almost made a full recovery a few days after it happened without barely a boost of help. There was still an abundance of food leftover the night before, though Jack made a mental note that they were running low, but now... There was no scrap left.
"Is he.. going through a growth spurt?" Jack wondered. "I hope not. He doesn't need to get anymore bigger and terrifying."
"I donno. Maybe he's bulking up for something?" Yazzy suggested. "Maybe he's about to pull a Dragon Ball Z move on us and needs a full tank first."
"This isn't a joke okay? We're all out of food and I'm not prepared to just go out and hunt straight away. I don't know how many Ferals might still be hanging around either."
"I mean when I came here the first time with that group, they were always around, hiding and waiting to pounce, and we barely made it out. The second time, there were not only a lot less but they also took off running pretty quickly, and I haven't seen any sense. So maybe they're all gone."
Jack scratched his chin thoughtfully. "This might sound weird but bare with me... Mark is kinda top dog I think. Like when I was huddled in a much crappier place than this, there still wasn't any Ferals after the first time I was attacked in that area. And a lot of wildlife even started coming around the empty town instead of staying in the woods nearby. Which I guess isn't too weird but as soon as I went hunting and chased a deer into the woods, there was like this line between peace and chaos, and I walked over it. The deer was attacked immediately and so was I, but once Mark escaped and chased them down to save me again they all took off running like they were scared. It's like he's got this hold on them... Maybe it's the same here. He's marked his territory and now they don't want to come around, they stay just out of range."
Yazzy silently listened to him while nodding thoughtfully. "So maybe he's the Big Daddy? He could be the male Alpha over all of them."
"How though? I doubt he's met every single Feral to assert his dominance. And It can't be his size, he's not that big."
"That's what she said," Yazzy giggled, earning a groan of response from Jack. "Sorry, sorry, but maybe somehow they're all some unified group and he's the unspoken leader. I donno but if he's somehow the big guy, maybe he's bringing up his strength to get ready for something big. Maybe he plans to walk really far, or have a fight, or..." Yazzy raised her eyebrows.
