When my mom picked me up from school I was very quiet. I didn't know how to tell her that Hazel got arrested today at school because he had drugs. My mom hated people who used drugs and telling her my boyfriend is the guy they go to get their fix isn't exactly a good idea.

"I'm surprised."

"Why mom?"

"I thought you would be more excited that Hazel is coming over for dinner. I mean me and your dad definitely are. Well not your dad so much but you know what I mean."

"Yeah well he isn't really going to show up."

"That's peculiar. Why?"

"Something came up. It was totally unexpected it got even me by surprise."

"Sweetie where are you going with this?"

"Remember those police cars we saw in the morning?"

"No. You're not saying-"

"Yup."

"But it cannot be!"

"I'm serious they handcuffed him patted him down and everything."

"Oh my gosh! Are you ok?! You must be worried sick terrified even!"

That was not the response I was expecting.

"How is it that I'm more mad at him then you are."

"I'm pretty sure he has an explanation for whatever he did."

"He's a drug dealer mom! They found drugs in his backpack!"

"Zoey do you know your dad was a drug addict when I met him in college?"

"No way!"

"Really. His parents had gone through a divorce and he found comfort in that but eventually he quit."

"Now I feel bad."

"It's a normal reaction Zoey."

"Can I go see him at the station?"
"You know what! Why not?"

It was cold at the police station as usually. I saw detective Derrick up ahead talking to some police men. I tapped my mom.

"Didn't think I would step back in here."

"I know. If you don't mind I'll be in the car waiting."

"How do I talk to him? Just tell them you want to speak to him and they should call him up."

"Ok wait? How do you know this?"

"I had to bail your dad out of jail a few times in my life."

"What?"

"I'll tell you more later. Now go and see him!"

I tapped a guard and realized I didn't actually know my boyfriend's real name. I never bothered to ask him. I decided to try it out anyway.

"Umm excuse me?"

"I would like to speak to Hazel eyes."

He chuckled. "That kid wasn't lying."

"Lying about what?"

"That a small girl would come in here asking for him with a ridiculous name."

"It's not ridiculous!"

"Whatever. Come on I'll show you to the telephone and tell them to ring him up."

I nervously waited on the other side a glass wall with a telephone on the side of it. There was a little hole where I guess you could exchange things in. Then that's when I saw him. Hazel accompanied by two guards. He was in an orange jumpsuit with a line of number in bold black on his left shoulder. They say him down and took off the handcuffs that were binding him so he could answer the phone.

"Let me explain-"

"What were you doing? And why didn't you tell me? Do you know how worried sick I was? Not only that I'm furious!"

"I was going to tell you."

"Really when?! Because it seemed like you weren't planning on telling me at all. The worst thing about being lied to is knowing you weren't worth the truth."

He bit his lip.

"I wanted to te-"

"If you tell the truth it becomes a part of you past, if you tell a lie it becomes a part of your future and I don't want to have a future with you that is filled with lies."

His eyes began to water and as a single tear fell he looked at me and said "but what if you've been lying so long you don't know how to tell the truth?"

"I have and so will you. You always have a choice."

He shook his head, shut his eyes, and lean his forehead against the glass. "You gotta be kidding me. And here I was thinking you would admit that you don't tell the truth either."
I gripped the telephone as my knuckles turned white. "What do you mean?"

"Come on Zoey I've seen you sneaking around acting like you busy. You're hiding something and you won't tell me."

"That's not true!"

"Who needs to learn how to tell the truth now?"

I could tell I had gotten him upset. He didn't expect me to walk in here mad and calling him a liar. He looked at me one more time and he spoke. It was barely a whisper.

"Zoey I'm not good for you. And you obviously can see that. You should leave."

"You know I didn't mean what I said."
He motioned for one of the guards to handcuff him again and take him away.

"Wait! Where are you going?! I'm sorry! Please don't leave!"

As Hazel was being dragged away by the security guards he gave me one last look before he was around the corner and gone. How could I be so selfish. I was so upset at Hazel I didn't give him a chance to explain. I slowly walked back to exit when the security guard from the beginning came up to me.

"So how was your talk with your boyfriend Chayton?"

"Excuse me?"

"Wait so you actually don't know your boyfriends real name?"

I didn't want to ask afraid I knew the answer but I asked anyway. "And what would that be?"

"Chayton Colby."

Suddenly I couldn't breath. "I'm sorry but I have to go."
"I ran out the door not sure what to do. I couldn't think. How could the boy I kissed be the crazy rapist murder I was hunting down all these months?

******

As soon I got home I called Benson and told him to come over. The identity of Chayton Colby could not be discussed over the phone. I waited in the kitchen and told Benson to knock. I quickly opened it and didn't even wait until we got settled in to tell him what I knew.

"Are you sure?"
"Yes the security guard told me his name were these exact words Chayton Colby."

"But it doesn't add up."
"It doesn't make sense. You're going to have to go tomorrow to the station and tell Hazel to tell you everything he knows. It's the only way we'll find the truth."

"I'm pretty sure it's him."

"I know but let's listen to both sides before we do anything yet."

"Fine. But I don't know if i'll be able to face him. I'll go with you but at a far away distance. We'll finally put a stop to this."
I was more worried about all the damage that would be done just to find out the truth.
