Chapter 4: The Worst Damage Sometimes Shows

When I got home that night, I opened the front door of our house. I saw my parents screaming at each other; I had thought they went to bed from what my mother told me. Hearing my entrance, they both turned to me, eyes blazing with rage.

"Where have you been, young lady! This is not your free time!" My mother screamed at me, picking up a vase in her hands out of rage. I closed the door behind me knowing that closing it shut out any chance of me getting out of this.

I stared at my mother as she threw the vase at me. My father had left the room at that point, retreating to his study to exert his rage on one of his art pieces. The vase shattered by the side of my head onto the door, causing a few pieces to scratch my face. I felt a warm trinkle slowly slide down from my temple to my jaw and from there it dripped onto the ground at my feet.

She looked at her hands confused at what she had done, any rage that she had previously felt was gone. Slowly her gaze met mine, and realization filled her eyes. Hesitantly she stepped forward with a hand reaching out.

"Honey, I-I didn't mean to do that." Her words were just a whisper.

I met her gaze with one of my own, stepped past her hand that had been reaching out to me, and I put my hand on her shoulder.

"Goodnight, Mom." With those two words I left her standing in the hallway and went upstairs.

Once I reached my room, I heard her begin to shout again as she cleaned up the vase. She threw a few other things, but this time they were thrown onto the ground. Sighing, I grabbed a clean pair of pajamas to change into and jumped into the shower. Thankfully, I had my own bathroom that connected to my room.

While I was in the shower, I watched the blood from my cuts wash down the drain. For some reason, I just couldn't bring myself to care about my wounds. The wound that I was worried about was the one in my heart.

The fact that she threw a vase at me, cut me in half like a knife. It was shocking and depressing. I had already been down this road before but for another reason.

I shut off the water once I was done and stepped out, dressing in my pajamas.

That night when I went to bed, I felt like a foreigner in a place that I had once called home.

When I woke up in the morning, I was greeted by the sound of birds chirping as cheesy as it sounds. I slowly sat up in my bed stretching my limbs. Getting out of bed proved to be a problem because as soon as I tried to stand up a pounding pain went through my head.

Getting out of bed while carefully holding my head, I walked over to my mirror to see that I had two large cuts, and a dark bruise forming on the right side of my eye. I looked like shit.

I decided to leave my bangs down in hopes that they would cover my bruise and cuts. Then I skipped the make up, put on a loose tank top and jeans. Before I left my room I grabbed my keys and my phone; I had left my bag in my truck last night.

The house was very eery and quiet when I opened my door. It wasn't like yesterday when I knew someone was home. There was no sign of my mother or father, so I quickly walked down the stairs just in case they were home. Grabbing a bagel and a water bottle, I bolted out of the house.

I got in my truck as fast as I could and left my house in a rush. It was only 7:20, which meant that I had time to spare before school started. I decided to put gas in my beast of a truck.

Pulling up to the gas station I pulled up to the first free pump I saw. There were quite a bit of kids from school here and most of them were getting gas. Sighing I quickly walked inside, paying for thirty dollars in gas.
