Chapter 16: You Wish You Had This Much Game
The weeks began to blur together and I found myself getting closer to both Chase and Trish. Instead of it being awkward between Chase and I, things were better than they had ever been before. We're now able to tell jokes, let out an occasional fart, and even hang out without worrying about if our words or actions mean something else.
Since prom was less than a week away, Trish practically dragged me to go dress shopping with her. I had originally told her that I wasn't going to go, but she looked as though she was about to pass out once I told her so I quickly said that I had decided to go recently. I really didn't want to deal with an unconscious body. We both didn't have a date so we agreed to go with each other.
Unsurprisingly my parents hadn't bothered to contact me except my dad's one attempt to make me move back home. It was a Thursday afternoon at the diner and he had came storming inside demanding that I move back in. I promptly turned him down, telling him that I was finally happy. Obviously he didn't like this and he broke out into a huge rage, throwing plates and cups around the diner.
I guess my dad did have a temper to him. During his rage, I wasn't able to calm him and neither was any of the male customers. My dad had decked one of the guys in the face and that's when Sal stepped in.
To be honest, I thought she was joking when she said she had a 10 guage shotgun behind the counter, but she wasn't. Sal had promptly pulled it out and told him that he had better leave before things got ugly. My dad reluctantly left while sputtering curse words at me.
The tips were really good that day.
After I told Sal about going dress shopping, she forced me into taking her credit card. She then told me that it was my one night as a teenager to dress up and live carefree, so whatever I needed to match the dress I could purchase.
"What do you think about this one?" Holding up a shimmering, floor length dress Trish beamed at me and I looked at it with awe.
"It's beautiful! Go try it on!" I scooted her into the dressing room and waited patiently as she changed. Once the door opened, I gaped at her in shock as she stepped out.
The silver material clung to her in all of the right places. The hem had a clear, bead embroidery on it and it flowed gently around Trish as she walked. She looked absolutely gorgeous in it.
"It's perfect!" I exclaimed. She was about to open her mouth when a chuckle cut her off. I narrowed my eyes and rolled my eyes once I saw Miranda glowering at Trish.
"Would you look at that; the cow actually found something nice." She snorted in laughter. Glancing over, I saw Trish's face redden with embarrassment.
"Would you look at that; it seems the pig needs to be taken back to the farm where it belongs," I retorted. Trish let out a laugh causing a glare from Miranda, but then her chuckle changed into full out laughter.
"I...you..ugh!" Turning on her heel, she stalked away leaving Trish and I doubled over in laughter. Reaching out, I rested a hand on Trish's shoulder reassuringly.
"You look beautiful." She returned my smile and then turned to walk into the dressing room to change back into her normal clothes. Once she came back out, she declared that she was going to buy the dress just to rub it in Miranda's face.
As we exited the shop with Trish's dress in a bag along with a matching pair of heels and jewelry, we began to explore more shops looking for a dress for me. There was a blue one that caught my eye, but once I had tried it on I realized that it didn't go well with my hair or eyes.
My eyes focused on a ruby red one just as I was hanging the blue one back up. Picking it up, I gazed at the red material with awe. Trish came up behind and nodded approvingly, without further hesitation I bolted to the changing rooms and quickly changed into the dress.
Once I walked out, I fidgeted nervously as Trish gawked at me. She nodded slowly, "That's the one."
I completely agreed with her.
