Charles tried to erase the memories of what happened; Erik murdered them all. All of them. He murdered all of the X-Men, Charles' own children were murdered by his Ex-friend, his companion. What was there to live for? He was shrouded in betrayal and guilt. All he could do was sit in his crumbling mansion and cry his eyes out. Jean, Scott, Evan, Ororo, Peter, Jubilee, Roberto, Marie, Forge, Kitty, Pietro, Warren, Kurt, Bobby and Logan. All their names echoed in his mind, their screams merged into a white noise that consumed his mind.
"Charles?"
His head perked up and saw the same monster that crushed his will to go on.
No.
"Why are you here. Just to torture me more?" Charles' voice broke, and he choked with his tears at each word. Erik wandered up to him slowly and placed a hand on his shaking arm.
"To tell you what really happened," Erik whispered. Charles didn't want to hear a word from this man, but it's better than to suffer quietly without any distraction. "They all were fighting me, that was true." He paused, allowing Charles to arrange his thoughts. "But I never murdered them, I went easy on them, they all went with a blast. It wasn't me. It was my own stupidity not knowing what my powers were doing."
"Continue," Charles begged his inner self to believe him. He really wanted to.
"Let's say my powers were so intense that the gas station nearby was attracted to my field." Erik bit his lip, and took off his helmet slowly, showing Charles full submission. "It wasn't my fault. I'm sorry. I would never murder my own son, you know that."
"Erik- "Charles glanced at his helmet that was now peacefully resting on the table in front of them. "Prove to me you are sorry." Charles' blue pools darkened with pain as he stared into Erik's turquoise ones. Erik's lips parted slightly, his white hair glowing and radiating like Pietro's would.
"I can." Erik smiled warmly, his face inched closer to Charles', before closing the gap between them. Charles hesitated but allowed Erik to proceed with his 'apology'. His magenta cape draped carefully over his back, Charles grasped the fabric, feeling Erik grow more vigorous and lustful. His hands caressed Charles' face gently, the cold fabric of his purple gloves sending chills down his spine. Charles was unable to move, he wasn't uncomfortable, but guilty he couldn't show his love back. He forgave Erik, but he still saw him as a monster, and his actions would stain his soul forever.
"Do you forgive me?" Erik didn't say that to sound demanding, but to hope that Charles would see him as a kind man.
"I forgive you, but I will never forget what you did." Charles' eyes averted away, unable to look at Erik's broken face.
"I understand." Erik moved away before unclipping his cape, it dropped to the floor and he inhaled deeply; he never felt so weak and vulnerable in front of anyone before. Charles put out a hand, his eyes still not making contact, but Erik grabbed it believing it was a handshake. Charles pulled him in and wrapped his arms around him.
"And I forgive you." Charles kissed him again. He kissed him until the pain was no longer there.
