Blaze wiggled and tried to get free from the dark crystals surrounding his hooves. As the crystal climbed his red body, he lit his horn with a bright orange flame and cast it onto the black gem-like structures. But as the flame touched the points of the crystals, it fizzled out with a hissing sound. His blue eyes widened and his jaw dropped open at the sight of his magic doing no damage. Gritting his teeth, he let loose more flames, but his magic was useless against the crystals that were almost to his chest, and the colt was reduced to yelling for help again.

"Now, now," The first voice spoke again in a voice that almost seemed to hum. "This will be much easier if you just hold still."

"Don't struggle, my magic knows fear, and that only makes it stronger." Said the second voice as vibrant red eyes appeared in the shadows.

A deeper, equally threatening voice chimed in, "Yes, I can practically taste your power already!"

"HELP, SOMEPONY!" Blaze cried.

As much as the unicorn hated asking for help, he wouldn't deny it now, no matter who offered it to him. Unwilling to go down without a fight, he cast balls of flames over to where he saw the pair of red eyes and the tip of a colt's muzzle. The eyes narrowed and disgruntled sounds could be heard from where he stood.

Suddenly the sound of flapping wings came from above, and another colt came zooming down to the ground, putting up his dark blue wings protectively, his chest heaving as he caught his breath. The pegasus whipped his head around and Blaze's light blue eyes were met with wild, blue-green ones.

"Blaze, are you alright?" The pegasus asked calmly in a somewhat deep voice.

"Oh yeah, just going for a relaxing walk, NO I'M NOT OKAY!" Blaze quipped sarcastically. "Tidal, get me outta here!"

"What is the meaning of this?!" The humming voice cried, outraged. "Stop this foolish colt!"

The pegasus wrinkled his muzzle, "I don't think so."

With that, the pegasus named Tidal hovered above the ground and threw his front hooves out forcefully. Water poured out from his hooves and soared over to where the voice came from, cornering whoever may be in that part of the alley with a wall of churning, moving water. Tidal then turned back around to face Blaze.

"What's going on?" He questioned. "Why aren't you using your magic?"

"My magic won't work Tidal!" Blaze exclaimed, his pulse quickening as the crystals covered his back and were starting to cover the middle of his neck.

"Then we will have to fuse our magic." Tidal concluded with a sigh.

"What?! Tidal Wave, last time we did that we caused so much damage we had to-"

"Just do it! My shield won't hold for long and at this rate you're be a crystal pony statue if you don't hurry!"

Stifling a groan, Blaze lowered his head and lit his horn with magic, a flame burning within a few seconds. Meanwhile Tidal Wave had formed a ball of water and it was floating carelessly between his hoof on top and the one on the bottom of it. Together, they counted to three and flung their magic at the crystals, their eyes squeezed tightly shut in concentration. The projectiles collided with each other then met the dark crystals with a bang and a flash of light. Then the crystals shattered, flying in every direction as the wall of water broke apart and rained down along with the crystals.

Tidal Wave dropped to his knees, his curly bangs falling into his face as he found himself breathing heavily again. Now free of the black gems, Blaze let out a sigh of relief, then leaned down to look Tidal Wave in the eye.

"Tidal, buddy, can you stand? Can you walk?" The unicorn asked.

"Y-yeah..." Tidal answered, stuttering in a breathy tone. "Lets go before something else happens."

With that, the two friends galloped away, leaving the three creatures in the alley seething in anger. Their thirst for power would have to remain unquenched for the time being. Two ponies may have escaped their grasp today, but they would get their power they coveted so much eventually. They were sure of it.

...

"Why in Equestria would you tell me all this information if it was possibly something top secret?!" Geode blurted out incredulously, staring at Winter Frost with enormous eyes.

It had been a day since Winter and Whirlwind had told Geode about their knowledge on the elements and they decided it was in all of their best interests to tell him how that knowledge was acquired. Just as they thought, the crystal pony was taken aback.

Winter looked down and muttered, "Well... it concerns me! I mean, not just me, but us! Besides, don't you want an adventure?"

At that comment Winter gained two eye rolls - one from Geode and the other from Whirlwind. Sure, maybe her explanation wasn't exactly the best, but she told them that she had a feeling that she couldn't quite place when it came to the elements. She said that now she almost felt responsible for learning more about the elements... It was almost...

"Fate maybe?" Winter said uncertainly after explaining her thought process.

Whirlwind sighed, "Look Geode, I'm not exactly sure how this all happened, but I trust my best friend. She's never led me wrong before, and I don't intend to start doubting her now. You have to decide now: Are you in?"

"I..." Geode began, his eyes shifting about.

"Are you in, Geode?"

The crystal pony let out a sigh before giving a small nod that eventually got more vigorous. The three exchanged glances and Geode flashed a grin. Whirlwind returned it with a look of confidence while Winter told them her plans to get some more information on the elements and maybe even find out why they're needed. Since Geode was going back to the Crystal Empire tomorrow night, she decided she would have to do it in the afternoon.

"Wait, you mean today?" Whirlwind asked arching an eyebrow.

"Well, yeah." Winter nodded. "If I do it tomorrow we might not have enough time to gather information before Geode leaves."

"Fair point."

"So, today's the day?" Said Geode.

"Yep. Here's where your adventure starts." Winter told.

"Our adventure." Whirlwind corrected with smiling eyes.

"Yes. Our adventure."

At that comment, the three then discussed when and where they would meet up later in the day before Geode went back to his room at an inn, Whirlwind flew into the clouds to her home, and Winter started down the path to her own place within the small town. A delicate snowflake formed in Winter's magic hold as she travelled through the streets of Ponyville, sparkling innocently as she thought about her next move.
