"Sure, it seems like just about everypony else wants to ask me questions today, so why not give it a go?" Blaze snapped, rolling his eyes.

"Um..." Winter stalled, breaking her eye contact with him and looking to the side. "My magic revolves around ice, and... well hearing about your fire powers has gotten me a bit curious."

"And?"

"A-And... um..."

Twilight Sparkle then searched the room for a reason to make a quick exit. At this point, she figured anything would do. Winter was clearly trying to mention the elements to Blaze, but he wasn't cooperating. Twilight figured if she could take her leave, Winter might step up and talk to Blaze more confidently with less ponies in the room. Either that or she didn't want to mention the elements in front of Twilight.

Then her eyes landed on her quill, and she used her magic to press down hard on her parchment with it at an angle. The writing utensil snapped, and the tip of it separated from the rest of it. Quickly - and unfortunately rather awkwardly - she excused herself from the room to find herself another quill.

After a moment or so of hesitation and self motivating thoughts, Winter began to tell Blaze that she had met other ponies with elemental powers and how that might be more significant then it sounded to him. Aiming to break the idea of him being an element bearer better than she did to Geode, she hinted at elemental powers and the mystery behind it. But the unicorn didn't even so much as give her a curious look. Finally, after what seemed like forever, he spoke, but it wasn't about what she was hoping.

"Look, it's not that it wasn't nice meeting you," He started taking as he stood from his cushion and began to put his saddle bags on. "but I'm not willing to waste my time here in Ponyville. I'm here for Princess Twilight's study and her study only. Now, if you excuse me-"

"No, you excuse me! I'm trying to be polite but you've left me with no choice but to be straightforward. I need to talk to you about your magical talent because the fate of Equestria might be at stake here and I'm afraid you and I might be part of the few ponies that can help! You've got to listen to me!"

Blaze stopped where he was and turned to stare at Winter with an open mouth, light blue eyes wide with shock. Had the pony who had trouble keeping eye contact with him just say all that? Did his ears deceive him? After all, that was the polar opposite of what he had previously witnessed.

Winter's cheeks then flushed a light pink, "Sorry, I just... I can't let you just leave when I have so many questions that need answering. We're talking about lives here, Blaze."

Okay, perhaps he could learn to get along with this mare. After all, she made a good case, and even stood up to him.

"So, tell me more about these elements."

...

Somewhere in the dark depths of the changeling palace a male earth pony relentlessly bucked at the bars of his cell, which resembled stalagmites and stalactites. A unicorn with a white coat and faded green eyes watched him from a corner, where she laid on the ground. After a while, she picked up her head and glared at the earth pony.

"Would you give it up already?!" She yelled. "You've been at this for at least half an hour! I'm getting sick of it!"

He whirled his head around, "Sorry to interrupt your beauty sleep, but I'm too busy trying to escape!"

"It's not going to happen." She said with a sigh.

"I know..." He responded, putting his head down as he let his orange frazzled mane fall into his face. "But I don't want to give up just yet."

"You're wasting energy."

"I don't care!"

He began to pound on the bars again and again, showing it no mercy. He bucked it with his back hooves, then tried with his front. Then, a tiny crack was made in a stalagmite. Tiny, but the earth pony beamed and continued to buck the same spot repeatedly, shaving off little pebbles with each blow. But suddenly, he felt a strange sensation in his stomach, and the tingling feeling that gave him the impression he was being watched.

The earth pony looked up, and came face to face with vibrant red eyes with trails of green magic at the ends. He sucked in a breath of surprise and jumped back. His heartbeat sped up, and the white unicorn edged farther back into her corner. King Sombra's red eyes narrowed and he lit his horn. Immediately the bars of the cell formed many sharp points and jagged edges, sprouting from its base. The king then let out a low growl and continued on throughout the halls.

The earth pony let out his own growl, or rather a battle cry after King Sombra left, and he charged at the stalagmites again. The unicorn mare cried out to stop him, but he merely bucked the bars again and again just as relentlessly as before. Tears formed in his eyes as he bit down on his lip, trying his best to ignore the pain before he crumpled to the ground, gasping. The unicorn galloped over, and bent down by his side to examine his hooves. Blood leaked out from cuts and a few shards of rock were still in his hooves.

She pulled at the shards then proceeded to take off the blue ribbon from her tail with her teeth, tear it in half, then wrap it around his battered hooves. He thanked the mare in a tired, shaking voice. She merely nodded and stood up to go back to the corner, but it was then that he noticed she had a mark on her side. A burn mark.

"What did they do to you?!" He called out to her, not even clarifying what he meant.

She frowned, "A few days before they put you in here with me I also tried to escape. I managed to pick the lock with my hairpin, but got lost in the tunnels. Afterwards, that centaur found me, saw I got out of his cage, and locked me in here. I... I had tried to resist and got... this."

She looked at the burn and the turned her gaze to the ground.

"I just hope we can actually get out of this place soon..."
