Chapter 10

Song of the Chapter: Vanilla Twilight by Owl City

~~Justin's POV~~

"Baby, wake up. Sweetheart. Wake up," I cooed in Rachel's ear.

She groaned tiredly and rolled into my chest.

I chuckled at how cute she was being. "Babe. You're sleeping the day away."

I pulled her away slightly by her shoulders. Her eyes were still closed. I pecked her nose. "C'mon."

"Remember what I said last night? I have gotten like no sleep in the past week. I'm trying to catch up on what I lost," she explained groggily.

"Well first off, it was technically this morning. It was like 4am remember?" I joked. If her eyes weren't closed she would have rolled them. "And secondly, it's a little after 3. I wanted to do something with you today."

"You wanted to so something with me. How could you have planned anything? Until this morning, we weren't even talking."

"It's a little after 3," I repeated, "I've been awake since noon. So planning since noon."

"But I'm tired," she whined, digging her face into my chest.

"Fine. I guess we'll just have our first date some other time."

"First date?" she asked enthusiastically, opening her eyes slightly.

"Yea. See, we've been out together but we never have had a date date. But you want to catch up on your sleep so, we'll just have to reschedule," I said over dramatically, turning over in bed.

I felt the weight shift drastically and quickly. Rachel was on top of me in no time. "Where are we going?!" she asked, bobbing on the bed like a little kid on Christmas morning.

"Take a shower, get dressed in something comfortable casual, and stay up here until I come and get you."

She looked at me questioningly, only to cover up the worry.

"I'm just going downstairs," I assured her.

---

"Can't you just tell me where we're going already?" she whined from the passenger seat.

"What kind of surprise would it be if you knew where we were going?" I joked.

She crossed her arms and pouted.

"Close your eyes," I instructed.

"No."

"C'mon babe. Don't be a party pooper."

"Fine."

I turned the corner to our first-date-destination and parked. I looked at Rachel, with her eyes still closed, and took in the sight of my beautiful girlfriend. I wanted to tell her right here right now that I loved her with my whole heart, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I settled on kissing her irresistible lips instead. "Open," I whispered on her lips. It took her back a minute because she didn't open her eyes for a little while. When she did though, she was shocked to say the least.

"A park?" she asked, "...tell me our first date is going to be a picnic!"

"You guessed the surprise," I said sweetly, opening my car door. I also opened hers and grabbed the basket from the car floor behind her.

"I wanted to talk to you about some things. Answer any questions you may have. I know these conversations aren't very first date-y, but I think they're important if we want to get any further with our relationship," I stated, sitting across from her on the blanket I laid out on the grass. Its the greenest grass in town in a nice-ish part of town. Although I'm a good fighter, I don't have my gun back yet and I don't feel 100% safe without it. If it were just me, I wouldn't care, but I'm with Rachel and I need to keep her safe above all else.
