Chapter 13
Song of the Chapter: Flatline by the one and only, our babe Justin Bieber
~~Rachel's POV~~
The drive felt like it took forever. Every bump or pothole in the road was another thing to add to the laundry list of things going against Justin right now. There was traffic, I don't know why or how. It was the middle of the night, but I guess in this town, no one sleeps and there's no telling when there will be traffic. There was an accident, resulting in a detour and our car was pulling to the right for some odd reason. Nothing was going right and I felt like it was all created by Peter and his gang of ruthless psychopaths.
"How's he holding up? ETA to the ER is 3 minutes," Jayden stated.
"He's still bleeding really bad. I'm trying to stop it, but its just so much blood."
"Still unconscious?"
"...very."
The boys were trying to help me with the bleeding, but again it was so much blood. The car would need a good scrubbing, although if it was me, I'd probably just get a new car. It was dark in the car and the street lamps didn't do much illumination on the interior of the car. I didn't even know if he was breathing, or alive for that matter.
The amount of times I whispered, "I love you too" was uncountable. He finally said it, the first time he admitted his love for me and he passed out before I could respond. I kept saying it, hoping he could hear me, but knowing he couldn't. Maybe I kept saying it to make myself feel better.
Before long the car had a red glow and chaos erupted yet again. Jayden sped around the corner and right up front by the automatic double doors into the ER. The words 'Emergency Room' loomed overhead as the boys got Justin out of the car and onto a gurney rolled over by Jayden whom had catapulted from the driver seat as soon as the car stopped moving. We rolled him inside where I continued to stand next to him. He was immediately rolled back into a triage room. The ER here was packed, not a surprise, and there weren't any rooms for the people already waiting, but since he was on deaths door they brought him back. Only Jayden and I followed. The rest of the boys were out in the waiting area. Codes were shouted over the intercom and nurses, RNs, and doctors came from all over, in every direction. They surrounded him like vultures to fresh road kill. Someone saw Jayden and I and I've seen enough movies to know what would happen next.
"You two can't be here," she stated.
"He's my boyfriend I'm not leaving him!" I fought, just like characters do in movies, although I knew it was pointless.
As Jayden and I were ushered out I heard everything that was wrong with him. "Perforated small intestine, punctured lung, and facial lacerations," someone said loud enough for everyone to hear. I stood in the hallway, slowly walking backward as the nurse continued to push Jayden and I back. "You two have-" I stopped paying attention when someone said something louder and more important. Something that made my stomach do flips.
"He's flatlining!" I stopped walking and charged through the nurse and into the little area where Justin was.
"Grab the defib kit!"
"Charging!"
"...Clear!"I watched Justin's chest rise and fall as an electric charge coursed through his body in hopes to restart his heart. I felt hands on my upper arm but I refused to leave until I knew he was at least alive again. "Cmon baby," I whispered more to myself then anyone. Everyone waited in anticipation as the paddles came off his chest to charge them again. That's when his heartbeat came back. It was faint, but it was there.
"Okay he's back! Call the OR, get a room, he's going into emergency surgery!"
"Before he's stable?!"
"Yes!"Jayden grabbed me by the waist and pulled me all the way back to the waiting area. When we got there he spun me around to look at me. I stared at him... or more like through him. "Rach?" he asked.
