Chapter 10 Daniels pov

Melanie can't be dead! No she can't be. Whoever did this to her will pay. I will slowly kill them. She was all I had left. I took care of her since she was young.

She lived on a small mansion at the top of a cliff. I go through the gate and up the hill. I pull up next to her front door.

Daniel are you ready for this? I open the door slowly. I run to Melanie's room. I open the door to see Caroline sitting next to the bed in tears. I see dust covering her bed. No! She can't be dead. A vampire isn't dead until they turn into a pile of dust.

Caroline rushes to my side, I give her a hug and she leans her head into my chest. She cries and I start crying too.

My heart aches for my sweet Melanie. "Caroline, you are welcome to stay at my house. I have a room for you." Caroline pulls back from me.

"No, I can't. I will stay here. This is my house. I can't leave her or this house." Caroline replies. I can see the pain her eyes as if she had lost a child. She came to work for us at age 18. That was ten years ago.

"I'm sorry that you have this pain. I can't make it go away. I can't make you feel better, but I want you to know I will always be there. If you ever need anything, don't be afraid to call me." I say holding her in my arms.

"I have to go now, I just need some time." I say. I give Caroline one last hug before heading for the door.

"Daniel." Caroline says.

"Yea?"

"Melanie would have been proud of you, and she always loved you and looked up to you." Caroline holds back her tears.

I nod trying to hold back mine. I wanted to die and scream, but not in front of Caroline.

I walk out the door and a cold breeze hits my face. Tonight I weep for my sweet beloved Melanie. Tomorrow I hunt for those bastards.

I go to my favorite place, the woods. I park and walk up the trail. I smell a camp site ahead. Well Daniel, you are hungry. I head for the camp site. I hide in the bushes. I see a boy and girl. They are roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. I sprint into a full spread toward the guy. I take him down in one blow. The girl starts screaming. The boy struggles against me. I lean down and sink my teeth into his neck. He screams louder that his little girlfriend did. She takes off into the woods.

Has she never seen a horror story? I drain the boy. I lick the edges of my teeth, wiping away all the blood. I start my run towards the girls scent. I find her in a matter of seconds.

"Please!!! Don't hurt me!" She begs. I grab her in my arms. She screams for help. I look at her face. I let go of her and she just stares at me. I see it in her eyes. She has that softness that Melanie had. I couldn't.

I grab her arm. I look into her eyes. "A bear attacked your camp and killed your boyfriend. You don't remember anything about it, except that you ran. You have never seen me. I'm just a figure of your imagination." I say. I persuade their minds so easily.

She nods and runs. I go deep into the forest heading for the mountains. I can't believe Melanie is dead. Storm clouds gather around. I should be home with Rebecca, but she wouldn't understand.

She couldn't do anything for me. My whole life has been hell. I miss mom, she died in the hands of witch. I remember that night like it was yesterday.

*flashback*

"Daniel, come on we are going to be late!" My mom says in her sweet voice.

"Do we really have to go mommy. The vamps there are creepy. Why are they not nice like you? They need to act like you." I say.

"Daniel, your only five. You can't be saying stuff like that at the party. I know, but there will always be mean people." My mom says taking my hand. We turn down a long dark alley. When a trash can is knocked over. I more in closer to my moms arms. I see a shadow run past us.

"Daniel, when I say go I need you to run. Ok, run like hell. Don't stop till you see dad." My mom whispers in my ear.

Where is my mom going. That's when a witch walks out yof the shadows. "Going somewhere Elizabeth?" The witch asks. She was beautiful, but I knew that was a mask for their true form.

"What do you want?" My mom asks. She shoves me behind her. I peek around her waist.

"You have screwed us over with the Tera compromise. You have no clue what that has done to us. Now we will destroy the one thing that matters to the vampire kingdom, the one and only queen." She sneers as she gives a bow. She starts speaking in an ancient language and my mom drops to ground in pain.

"No!!!!! Leave her alone!" I'm screaming at the witch. She was startled for a second and lost concentration. My mom jumps up instantly and runs at the witch.

She grabs the witch by the throat and tackles her to the ground. My mom lunges at her throat, but the witch pulls her back.

The witch begins to speak again in her language and my falls off the witch. Mom looks at me in the eyes. I see the fear and defeat in them. She mouths the word go, but I don't run. I focus back on the witch. She starts finishing her spell. It sounded like she said, "bring cow to how more eke we're.". I know she didn't really say that but it sounded like it. My moms eyes roll back and slumps her head back.

No!!!!!! She took my mom!!!! I feel anger like no other. I feel my fangs grow. I lung at the witch.

"You damn bitch!" I yell. I grab her neck and look into her eyes. She lets out and ear piercing scream. Her eyes turn completely black and her veins pop out causing them to turn black. Her face looked like the black veins had turned to vines and climbed up her face. She falls to the ground, and I still have my hands on her neck. She passes out, I knew she wasn't dead. I set her on fire. I knew she was dead.

"Bitch." I mumble as I looked at the fire. I grab my moms arms and begin to drag her to the castle. Her body felt slightly heavy, but I don't mind that's my mother! I reach the castle and call for help. Two guards run to the gate. The pick up her lifeless body and carry her inside. I follow behind them and run into my fathers ballroom. It was full of people. I find my dad on the other side of the room.

I run to him and crash into his leg.

"Daniel! How many times do I have to tell you? Don't run in the castle." He says. Then he looks at my face and see that I'm in tears.

"What's wrong Daniel?" He asks concerned.

"Mommy dead!!!! Witch killed her!" I see my dad eyes fill with anger. He runs out of the room. A servant grabs my arm and drags me to my room for the night.

*present*

I'm half way up the mountain. I turn around and look out in the valley. I need to go home before it storms. I make my way to the graveyard. The air smelled of old rotten roses, that would lay on the graves. I grab a few flowers. I find the tree that Melanie would always go to when she was upset.

I dig a small hole next to the tree. I grab the bottle of Melanie's ash I took before I left Melanie's house. I pour it in the grave and cover the hole. I lay the flowers down.

"Melanie, I loved you and will miss you. You meant everything to me. You were there for me, when no one else was." I head back to the house.
