Kirino's POV

Being partners in Port Mafia for 4 years with Dazai had changed him. His regular act was no longer a stoic, cold face. It was rather amusing to see that he adopted a more energetic persona—if that's even the right way to describe it. The old Dazai was not gone, merely suppressed. He's also grown fond of committing suicide, unfortunately. When I asked him about it, he said it was because there was nothing for him to live for.

"Do you have something to live for, Kirino?" he asked me once.

"I don't have a specific purpose for living. But I guess it's the bonds I have on Earth that tie me down. Plus, dying sounds painful." I chuckled lightly. "Osamu-kun, I can't tell you what your purpose in life is, and you may never find it. In fact, you probably won't. The darkness and pain in your heart are too great for anything in this world to fill the void. But if you can find a reason to live for just another day, that's enough"

After that one conversation, our relationship improved drastically. One might even call us friends seeing as though he drops his act when people weren't around. Around me, he is warm and quieter. He doesn't bother me with his useless banter of suicide as he does with everyone else.

We did most missions together, along with Nakahara Chuuya who became a third member in our group. Dazai would neutralize Chuuya's ability when he got out of hand, while I would assist in attacking with Chuyua, while defending the three of us. Together, we became the most feared group in all of Yokohama. However, he and Dazai didn't really get along, in fact, they would both go out of their way to annoy each other. I acted as a middle-man in their fights since I was friends with Chuuya.

Dazai and I also took a young boy under our tutelage, Akutagawa Ryunosuke. He has a promising ability and the boss hopes that by giving him to the two newest Port Mafia executives to train, he could become an important asset in the future. Dazai was always the harsher teacher. I sometimes tried to get him to relent a little, but his only response was "He won't improve if we don't push him like this."

However one incident would change us both forever. During the Mimic incident, I went on a mission on my own since Dazai was busy with his own operations. I tailed Mimic members to find their boss. My job wasn't to kill him, but to find information about the mysterious group. Before I knew it, I fell into his trap; it was too late when I figured out his ability was like Odasaku's. As I went after him punch after punch, I couldn't manage to touch him. His elbow slammed into the back of my head and I blacked out.

Dazai's POV

Kirino has been missing for 5 days now. I've sent my men to track her but she's nowhere to be found. I would've ordered Odasaku to, but he was busy finding Angou who was also missing. For majority of Port Mafia, they're both under suspicion for being traitors . Only Odasaku and I knew the truth. It wasn't until 5pm when one of my men barged into my office. "Sir, we found Kirino and it doesn't look too good."

As soon as I hear that, I rush to the clinic where she was being treated. She had an oxygen mask over her mouth, body-- broken and beaten. Some of her limbs were bent at a weird angle and there were bruises, cuts, and burns all over her body.Extreme anger like I never before engulfs me as I stare at Kirino's injuries. A doctor approaches me and gives me a piece of paper, "Sir, a note was left with her."

I open it and read the content. It says, "This is what happens when someone fails to speak. It doesn't matter though because we found what we needed without her."

I clench my first in frustration. It was the work of Mimic's boss, no doubt. From what I know, Odasaku found him the other day, and offered a proposal to kill him.I reach my hand out to touch Kirino's hair, reassuring myself that she was back and will recover soon. Being without her for five days was unsettling, we have never been apart for so long before.
