Winter break was coming to an end and it was time to get back into our regular morning routine for school.
"Bethany!" I groan pulling the bedsheets over my head as her loud, obnoxious music was blasting throughout our bedroom. As in result she turned the music up even higher. I completely forgot how mornings with Bethany were.
Moments like these made me miss living with my father, technically alone.
I pull down the sheets to see Bethany at her vanity, applying a layer of foundation, singing to whatever was on the radio. I flip the sheets off me and drag my feet towards our shared bathroom, gosh did I miss this.
After waiting what felt like hours for Bethany, I was eating cereal alone at the kitchen table. My mother walks out her bedroom smoothing her pencil skirt. Now that break was over everyone had to go back into their routines.
"Since school is starting today, I was wondering if I can get my phone back?" I ask before taking a spoonful of Cap'n Crunch.
My mother slips my phone out the tiny pocket in her blazer and holds it in the air. "Why should I? You're only going to school and coming back home."
"Well how are you going to keep contact with me?" I state before taking another spoonful. It's been about two weeks since the night at Sweets trailer, neither of us have spoken about it nor have I received my phone back.
"I can call Bethany for that." My mother insists before slipping my phone back into her pocket, walking towards the kitchen.
"I don't even see Bethany at school! She hangs out with a different crowd." I explain drinking the leftover milk in the bowl.
"Then I guess you'll have to be near her at all costs." My mother shrugs, pouring herself coffee in her travel mug.
"I don't want to be seen anywhere around her." Bethany snarled from her room. "You see the way she's dressed. I'm already humiliated enough being known as her sister!"
I place my now empty bowl in the sink and happily walk over to my mother who was once again holding my phone in the air. Yes, I knew Bethany would freak. "Fine. School and back, you hear me?"
"Yes, ma'am." I say grabbing my phone with a sly look on my face.
"Now come on, you girls are going to be late." My mother states sealing the lid to her mug before walking out the door.
The car ride was silent till we pulled up in front the large building. "Have a good day girls, be good." My mother shouts as Bethany and I hop out her brand new Silverado.
Bethany quickly rushes up the steps, ignoring our mother and into the building while I dreaded to walk up the stairs. I shove the cold metal doors of Riverdale High before walking in, by now, I no longer received stares.
The heels of my boots echoed with each step I took down the never ending hall filled with hormonal teenagers. I was fine being the lone wolf here, as long as I had my phone I would be fine. I walk up to my locker entering my combination.
"Students of Riverdale High, Emails have been sent to your parents, but effective immediately, Southside High School is shut down." Weatherbee announces on pa just before every student is gasping. "And it's students will be transferred to other schools in the district, including this one."
I glance around the hall to see groups of teenagers groaning and whispering things one to another, yet I couldn't help but smile.
Was it possible? Sweet Pea, Jughead, Toni and Fangs could possibly be attending Riverdale High School.
"I believe the statement we're releasing will address your concerns and theirs. You should be receiving it shortly. I'm sure you have many questions. But it goes without saying, we are welcoming these students with open minds, hearts and arms. We will help them with any questions, extracurriculars, course schedules or locker assignments. Thank you. That is all." Principle Weatherbee finishes as the students down the hall gossiping about the announcement.
I swing my locker open and grab my English textbook before shutting it behind me. I pull out my phone to see tons of notifications. Ignoring them, I unlock my phone and pull up a number that hasn't been used in a while and pressed the call button.
"Is it true?" I question leaning against the locker with my phone held up to my ear.
"No more Southside High! It's officially closed." Sweet Pea beams while Fangs cheers in the back causing me to giggle.
"They say it's dangerous and gonna be quarantined." Fangs shouts into the phone right before Sweets speaks.
"We're going to Riverdale High, princess." Sweet Pea calmly says through the phone, I knew a smirk was amongst his lips.
"Should I be worried?" I tease chewing on my lower lip.
"Oh, darling you should be." A soothing chuckle warmed my heart. "Fogarty and I are heading to the quarry. I gotta go princess, I'll text you later!"
I end the call with a satisfied grin on my face and walk towards the famous student lounge.
"But why is this happening now?" Archie questions as Veronica, Betty and Kevin discussed the recent announcement.
"Who knows. It's probably some bizarre, Byzantine town ordinance we couldn't possibly understand." Veronica explains, "And in the mean time, let's receive these exiles as if they were our own flesh and blood. Who's in?"
"I am." I step in receiving stares from the four, including others who stood around.
