"What do you want, Luca?" She snapped as she walked out of the shadows and into the streetlight that hung overhead.
"To talk." He said in his usual 'come-hither' low voice that would have most women crawling towards him begging him to take them. Jenny had learnt that the hard way.
"Every time you say you 'just want to talk'..." she mocked in a husky whisper "...we end up back at my place and I wake up alone."
"Not every ti-"
"Every time." She snapped, cutting off his lies.
He stood up from the wall he'd been leaning against and sauntered towards her in his usual manner. Lucas Santius was a dangerous man in more ways than one. A known heart (and leg) breaker, he was someone who Jenny had always known it was better to keep on side.
She was reminded of that by the predatory glint in his eye. He may look human, but Luca was much less than that. An Upper Demon Master from the 6th level of Lower hell, Luca was a few centuries and a couple of promotions off of being the Devil's right-hand man. That may seem like a long time, but when you have an eternity, it's within reach.
"Then for once, Jennifer," He spoke her name like it was a sin, "I will stick to my word. I only want to talk, I have a...problem, shall we say and for lack of a better phrase, I believe you can provide the solution."
Jennifer studied Luca as he stopped at a respectable distance, there was something different about him tonight. For a start, he normally appeared out of nowhere and yet today he'd sent her a message, asking her to meet him here. If she hadn't known him quite as long as she had, she'd have thought it was a trap. Secondly, by now she'd normally be up against her living room wall, begging him to do that thing with his tong- well, anyway, today he seemed actually intent on keeping her fully clothed.
"Not only are you a demon, but you're also an upper demon lord who commands 6 of the Devil's most highly skilled battalions. Not only that, but you also have a number of demon worshipers at your every command and yet you need me? You need an out-casted Wiccan to deal with your 'problem' for you?" She asked in disbelief as she took a couple of steps back and leant against the warehouse he'd asked her to meet at.
He appeared uncomfortable for a moment, before shifting on his feet slightly. He took a moment and raised his face towards the sky, bathing in the moonlight, "The problem is not mine alone. There are others above me. I have been ordered to outsource this particular 'issue'. It must be done with no ties to hell, I trust you, so figured you'd be the best person to come to." He stood a little more confidently now, a flash of green flame light up his right eye, a calling card from his superiors.
"Besides, we both know that you are more than just an outcast Wiccan, Jennifer. There's no denying who you are. I'll be in touch soon." As he smiled and disappeared into a cloud of smoke and the scent of death, she called after him.
"Maybe not, but I can try!"
Alone and shivering in the bitter harsh wind, Jenny turned away and headed into the night, intent on making it home before dawn broke.
As she walked, her shoes scuffed along the pavement and she wrapped her arms around herself. Maybe Luca was right, technically she is more than an outcast Wiccan, but that doesn't mean he can go dragging her into some kind of hell-problem. She wanted nothing more to do with demons than she had to.
Sighing heavily she ran her hand through her hair, as was her habit when she was nervous. Her stomach clenched as she got near her home, something was wrong, she could sense it.
That's the one thing she would always be thankful for, during her training, she'd been tested in harsh conditions and pushed to her physical and mental limits, one thing she'd learned was to listen to her internal instincts, she'd always be thankful for that, because on a number of occasions it had saved her life.
