"Is he still there?" you questioned, looking up from the menu you were previously skimming through.
Mario did the same with his, glancing over to the street corner behind you, seeing a not-so-subtle Bowser hiding behind a street light. The beast's cheeks were flushed red, him looking rather sweaty as his eyes stayed glued onto you.
"Yup." He responded, looking back down at the restaurant menu.
You were glad you found a rather nice area outside a quaint little restaurant. You wanted to enjoy some lunch and the establishment appeared to be rather nice, seeming to serve actually good food, even though half of the toad staff could barely even reach the counters.
But you were really hungry, and good food or not, you were still going to eat something.
But nonetheless, the day turned out pretty well, you and Mario took a nice walk through the Mushroom park, catching up with each other like the old friends you were. You shared many laughs and deep talks, just having a great time without a care in the world.
When afternoon started to roll around, a quick stop to get some food is exactly what you needed.
The time seemed to fall flat after you two seated and you happened to turn around and meet eyes with the infamous Koopa King peering at you from around the corner of the building.
You almost jumped out of your skin when you saw him, quickly averting your gaze, hoping he hadn't seen you.
Mario took notice of your behavior and turned his attention to where you were previously looking at. Once he saw his enemy and his pathetic attempts to stay hidden, he just lowered his brows and drew his gaze back down to the menu, clearly unamused.
The stare of the monster creeped you out just a little bit, you couldn't really concentrate on looking for your meal.
With a sigh, you folded the menu and sat up from your seat, letting the chair scrape slightly on the ground.
Mario raised his brow, not even looking up as you proceeded to cross your arms and walk over to the blushing Koopa behind the pole.
"Hello Bowser, may I ask what are you doing?" You asked in a nonchalant tone, tapping your foot rather impatiently on the floor.
"Gr...? You saw me?" He muttered, visibly embarrassed.
"Oh no, no, it's not like a nine foot tall turtle hiding behind a lamp post sparked my attention at all." You responded, rather snarky.
His face seemed to glow even more red, "Well, it's just..I have.. I just..gr, um.."
You placed a gentle hand on his large claw, "Go on now, don't be shy."
His face grew even more red, (if that was even possible). He chuckled nervously to himself.
You took notice that he had one hand behind his back, you looked at him rather curiously as he continued to babble.
"I was..was uh wondering..if you wanna," he coughed, pulling at his spiked collar. "You wanna maybe.. you don't have to if you don't want to! But it's just.."
He thrusted a bouquet of flowers towards you. "Do you want to go out sometime..?"
It was your turn to blush, your soft cheeks turning a light pink as you graciously accepted the flowers he got for you.
You gazed down at them and looked back up at him with soft eyes. You chuckled quietly and bumped your hip playfully against him.
"Pick me up at eight stud?"
Bowser looked shocked, he choked out a quick 'Okay', his face completely red as he took a big gulp. And just like that, he ran, the fastest you've seen anyone run, only leaving behind a heart shaped dust cloud in his wake.
You giggled and rolled your eyes as you made your way back to the table, visibly flustered.
"So.." Mario began, looking up at you.
"When's the wedding?"
