The dark night

If the sun comes up right after a dark night it's true the other way around too. After a sunny beautiful day, there comes a dark dark night. And the D-DAY was there already? I had a major operation of Heart Valve that day. I still remember my attempts at turning down the visit to the hospital.

"Come on, you'll be alright", My mom said as she drove the car.

"Mom I really don't want to go there. I don't like that place."

"No one likes that place, honey. You want to be alright or not?"

"I want to but.."

The next moment, I find myself seated in the waiting area. Now the thing is these hospitals are real fancy. Lavish lobbies, small green plants and how can I not mention the slow sweet musical tone of a piano playing in the reception. But trust me when you're here for a god damn operation, you can't see any of these luxuries. All you really hope for is that you get to live a little longer.

Miss. Riya Srivastava?  A voice came from behind. She was a young lady in her mid 20s maybe? In a white dress and neatly done ponytail. "Hi, I'm the nurse. You have an appointment with Dr. Parul? Please follow me."

I was taken to a huge room. I saw a lady engrossed in writing down notes and was drinking a coffee . It struck to me later that she might be the doctor, when I saw a stethoscope around her neck.

"Hello Riya!! You're much beautiful than I thought! How are you?"

I wonder if people give compliments to those who're on the verge of dying? Or she genuinely meant it.

"Good afternoon Ma'am. I'm good"

"Ready for the operation, are you?"

"I guess"

"Good"

She talked to my parents and I was admitted at the hospital.

In the evening, I was taken to the operation theatre. Laying down on the operation bed and looking up at the lights was no fun really. I thought about Mom, Dad and Arjun. All of them are so dear to me....

I was given anaesthesia. That explains why I don't remember what happened after this.

All I remember was when I opened my eyes, I was back in the hospital room and people were crying and shouting at the doctor around me. I almost felt I died and they're crying but that can't be possible.

"We're taking Riya back from here. It's too much" I heard my dad saying.

"What's happening?"

"Are you okay Riya?", Mom asked as she ran her fingers through my hair and kissed my forehead.

"I'm okay mom, But?"

I saw a smile on her face and a hint of water in her eyes.

"Oh all this? We'r leaving the hospital soon dear. I'll tell you everything.." She said with a cracking sound.

Back home she told me how the operation had failed and I could've died. The doctors apparently did a huge mistake while operating the heart. Miraculously, I was saved. People came and hugged me. Showered me with blessings and told me that I'm here for something, even the gods above want me to live longer.

"Riya, I really don't want to lose you" Arjun said as he held my hand tightly. "The only fear that keeps me up all night is the fear of losing you. You mean the world to me. There's no way I can make it without you. I want you to be here with me."

"I'll always be with you" I said as we hugged under the stars. The night was dark, But I had him with me and I was no longer scared.
