: chapter two
i wish i was a birdmillie unintentionally shut the door aggressively, "stupid fucking cat!"
the sudden outburst made finn slightly flinch and wake up. he lingered his eyes at mystery girl, quietly weeping, her face buried on her palms.
he rubbed his eyes and sat on the couch and saw sight of fruits, beers and cigarettes in paper bags on the floor, he assumed that mystery girl went grocery shopping.
"what's going on?" he asked cluelessly.
millie looked up and composed herself instantly, "that fucking cat," she murmured.
finn looked at her with furrowed eyebrows and went near her, "cat?" he tried to understand what she was referring to by scanning the room to look for a cat but ended up finding none.
"i- i was on the roof a- and this cat. . ." she stammered in between tears, "fuck," she cursed to herself and sniffled.
finn has no idea what mystery girl was trying to say but he saw how affected the girl was, so he tried to recall all the words she told him that made no sense at all as he grabbed her wrist and went on the roof together.
both teens were met by the strong breeze, making millie almost fall but finn was there to hold her tight. he scanned their surroundings and found disheveled birds nest and ruffled feathers on the roof.
"i tried to shoo the cat away, but it was too late," she sighed frustratingly, "fucking cat," she muttered again under her breath.
finn couldn't help but crease his forehead, he had never seen someone so affected by a situation like this. he didn't know how to cheer her up so he cleared his throat and patted her back awkwardly, "it's okay, millie. you did the best you could. he maybe spent most of his life being happy, you know. eating worms and shit," he cringed, unsure that those words were the right things to say, "it's just a bird, stuff like that happens all the time. circle of life," he added and shrugged.
she looked at him in disbelief, making finn gulp, "it's not just a bird, finn. what if he had a family? and it's not a circle of life, i could've stopped it," she defended.
finn sighed and came up with something, he let go of her wrist and walked forward to the birds nest.
"what are you doing?" millie asked worriedly while he ignored the question and continued walking on the slippery roof.
millie tried to move closer at where he was but the roof was too slippery from the rain, "what the fuck are you doing? get back here!" she yelled.
mystery girl couldn't contain her curiosity so she slowly went near finn. his back was facing her, "what's going on?" she tried to peek but he was too tall and the roof was too narrow for her to do so.
finn shifted sideways, "she," mystery girl tilted her head in confusion, "huh?"
"it's not a he. it's a she, see," he pointed at the small creature digging its way out underneath the nest.
millie bursted into tears, "she had a family," she croaked.
finn sighed and fixated his eyes at the chick, grabbing it and her wrist gently and went back towards their room.
