Checkpoint 2: Archery

Rules: Get a bullseye from 25 meters away.

The rules sounded so simple and I've always wanted to try indoor archery but never got the chance too. So this game is going to be super fun. And then, it was so super not. I couldn't even get the arrow on the board. Who knew archery was that tough. The rest of my group members didn't get the bullseye either but some managed to at least hit the target board. A lot of arrows ended up on the ground. There just wasn't any hope left for us to win the game.

I think god took pity on us because when it was Archie's turn our luck had changed.

Arrow after arrow, every single one hit the bullseye like it was nothing. Was he an Olympic champion? "Archie how did you do that?" I stared at him.

"Uh... I just you know take arrows and shoot them at the target."

"Teach me." I begged.

"So you just hold it like this, chin up, lower your arm and release." Archie was too close. I could feel the warmth of his body. His hands were directly on mine guiding me through every step. Once the arrow left the bow, he stepped back and I looked away, avoiding eye contact.

"Look. A bullseye." I turned around and it really was one. I thanked him and was too happy to stop smiling.

"Thank you, Archie."

"No problem Sheriff." I laughed again at his words.

"Are you like an Olympic champ?" I asked acting like there was a bow and arrow in my hands.

"Me? No... my dad taught me when I was younger."

"You got a really cool dad."

"Yeah he is but he passed away a few years ago."

"I'm so sorry."

"It's okay. So how about you? Other than being an expert at harassing kids for their lunch money what do you love to do?"

"Uhm... I love. Don't laugh okay. I love reading and watching movies about fairy tales especially those with a love story in it. I know I sound like a young girl dreaming but I just can't stop believing in them even though everyone tells me they don't happen in real life."

"Ever been in one before?" he asked.

"A love story? No, I wished I did though."
