EJ, tripped on the staircase again.
"EJ, does it hurt? Come on hold my hand. I'll lift you up."
EJ stood up on her own. EJ didn't cry.
When we were in class, I stared at her all day. Seeing if maybe her feelings needed time to kick in. Maybe, she would be crying later but not now. I waited and waited. EJ didn't even shed a single tear.
I remembered how I met EJ and also all the times she told me about all the crazy love stories she read. Some were really unbelievable and unheard of. It made me happy seeing her smile like that. Her rosy cheeks and curly brown hair made her look so young and lively. She was so strong. Picking a fight with anyone that dared to insult her friends or anyone close to her. I was really worried she would get hurt but she handled herself well. But now EJ, looked grey and unwilful.
"What'chu staring at EJ for?" Bree cooed.
I came back to reality. "Oh, uhm thinking the sun would make her too tan and how I would tease her for it later."
"Really? For a second I thought maybe you had a crush on her?"
"What? No!"
"We all thought you did. You were always so close to her."
But maybe.
