•Clary's POV•
Today is the day! We are leaving this life and starting a new one. Mom came and checked us out of school. This morning, before all this happened, I saw Sarah for the last time. I gave her a hug and promised her that as soon as I get my new phone, I was gonna call her and text her every day.
I also saw Emily. I needed to do this before I leave. I started to walk over to where she was but Sarah stopped me.
SJ- Clary, what are you doing?
CC- I need to do this before I leave for California.
SJ- Clary, I don't think-
CC- If I don't do this now, she'll think that she is the reason why I'm moving away from here. I need to do this so she won't have any power over me.
SJ- Okay.
I turned away and walked over towards Emily and the rest of her cheerleader friends.
ET(snooty)- What do you want Scars?
I didn't say anything. I simply just smiled and rose my already clenched fist and punched her as hard as I could.
I heard a loud thud and a lot of gasps. I turned my head and saw Emily on the ground, holding her nose that was gushing out blood.
EM(shocked and angry)- YOU BROKE MY NOSE!!!!
CC- And you don't have power over me anymore.
With that statement, I turned and walked back towards Sarah.
SJ- (shocked expression on her face)
CC- What?
SJ- Was that punch for all those years of aggression and hate towards her about?
CC- Yup
•THREE HOURS LATER•
Now we are at home waiting for dad to leave to go to the bar with his friends. We were all sitting in the living room. When dad came through with a coat in his hands, signaling us he was going to be out.
JC- Now when I return, these are the things I expect to be done. (pointing at Rachel) Dinner cooked and ready to eat.
Mom nodded her head.
RC- What do you want?
JC- Chicken Alfredo with your homemade Alfredo Sauce.
RC- Okay.
JC- (pointing at Shawn) Clean the gutters, there are leaves all over the place.
Shawn nodded his head.
JC- (pointing at Erik) Clean the living room, kitchen, the bedrooms, and the dining room. They better be spotless.
Erik put on a fake smile and nodded his head.
JC- (pointing at Clary) Wash every single piece of clothes, fold them and pith them away neatly.
I nodded my head.
JC- Whoever doesn't complete their task when I get home will be punished.
We hear a car horn honk outside, and dad walks towards the door opened it and left.
He never says goodbye or an 'I love you guys, I'll be home as soon as I can'.
We all quickly got up and ran to the window. We watched him get in the car and watched it speed off.
We looked at each other for what seemed like hours, speechless.
CC+RC+EC+SC(screaming at the top of their lungs)- WE'RE FREE!!
We got into a group hug and jumped around.
EC- Everybody, quickly, go get your things and put it in the car. (grabbing the minivan's keys) I'll go warm up the car.
Mom, Shawn, and I sprinted up the stairs to go get our suitcases. While I was grabbing my suitcases, I heard Erik's bedroom door open and slammed closed.
•30 MINUTES LATER•
We were all in the car getting ready to leave. Mom was driving with Shawn in the front seat. I was sitting behind mom and Erik was sitting behind Shawn.
Mom pulled out the GPS and typed in the directions to our new home. After the directions loaded, she backed out the driveway and drove away from the house.
Never to return again.
•ONE HOUR LATER•
We were riding in the car, far away from our old hometown. We were silent the whole time. I guess everyone was quietly containing their joy.
SC- Ughhhhhh, I'm so bored!
CC- Me too!
RC- Do you guys want to play Eye Spy.
EC- No, not really.
RC- What do Y'all wanna do?
We all sat there and pondered what we wanted to do for 5 minutes.
SC- Honestly, I kinda wanna hear Clary sing.
RC- Yeah, Clary do you want to sing for us, please?
CC- No thanks.
EC- Why not?
CC- Cause I don't feel like it.
EC- What if I sang with you.
CC- I wouldn't care, did you pack your Guitar?
EC-(reaches behind him and grabs his guitars case) Yes I did.
CC- I guess I'll sing if we do our song, Erik.
EC- Okay, Clary.
I smiled and Shawn and mom cheers while I prepare to sing with Erik.
Mom and Shawn cheered.
SC- Clary you need to become a singer.
RC- Not just Clary, Erik you need to become a singer too.
CC- Nah, I don't think it's for me.
EC- What do you mean it's not for you. Clary, your voice is amazing.
RC- You can sing better than me.
CC- Doubt it.
SC- Clary I think you need to gain some self-confidence.
RC- Yeah, honey, I haven't seen you talk yourself down so much ever since what your father told you.
CC(somber)- Guys, can we please drop this whole conversation.
EC- Sure, we'll drop this convo.
CC- Thanks, I think I'm gonna get some sleep. Wake me up whenever we stop to get food.
SC- Sure sis.
RC- We will honey.
EC- See you later Clary.
I pulled some suitcases out from the back and put them in the little space that was between me and Erik. Then I pulled my favorite blanket out and I laid over the suitcases.
My head was on Erik's lap. He took the blanket from me and spread it on top of me. Erik rubbed my back very slowly and I felt myself slowly drift off to sleep. Dreaming about our new life in California.
•FOUR HOURS LATER•
Erik woke me up because we had stopped to get some food.
CC(sleepily)- What time is it?
EC- (looks at his watch) It's almost 11:00. But since we are in a different time zone, (adjusts the time on his watch) it is really 9 p.m.
CC- Where are we?
SC- We are somewhere in Nevada.
CC- How far are we from San Diego.
RC- About 3 more hours. What do you want to eat?
CC- I really craving some Taco Bell.
EC- Me too.
SC- Same.
RC- I think there is a gas station by Taco Bell. We can eat and I can fill up afterward.
My siblings and I nodded our heads in agreement.
We went and got some food and mom filled up the minivan. While she was doing that, my brothers and I went to go use the bathroom before we got back on the road.
We got back in the minivan and went back on our way to San Diego, California.
But halfway there mom couldn't take the road anymore. Erik and Shawn were asleep, and I didn't know how to drive. So mom just pulled to the side of the road and we all went to sleep.
