"Oh, look who it is!" Adrian sneered. He seemed like I be wearing the same clothes he'd been wearing a week ago. He also smelled like he hadn't showered for a few days.
"Adrian." I gulped out. I felt guilty. Extremely guilty and what I'd done to him. Would making it up with a kind offer be enough? "Do you want to sit with us?"
"I think I just lost my appetite." Adrian looked at me with pain in his eyes. He had really fallen hard. Suddenly, he turned and was out the door before I could say another word. His usual swagger was not a tight walk to get him as far from me as possible.
Dimitri grabbed my hand in his. "You tried." He reassured me. "Don't forget that you tried to be kind and offer friendship again." He kissed the top of my head and pulled me towards the table.
Lissa and Christian had gone silent at the scene that occurred. As we sat down again Liss cleared her throat in her new queenly fashion.
"So, Rose," She laid her hands out on the table and snatched mine. "Don't forget about the trip in two days."
"What trip?" Dimitri asked quickly. Crap. The one thing I had forgotten was to tell him.
"Lissa is going on a diplomatic trip." I smirked. I had to get Adrian off of my mind... and Dimitri off this topic.
"To where?" He questioned. His dark brows furrowed together and I bit back a laugh.
"Calm down, comrade. We'll be fine. Remember that I was the one who went to frigid old Siberia all by myself." I smiled attempting to ease his tension. It must've been the wrong thing to say because he only frowned and shook his head.
"It's not something to joke about what I did, Roza." His accent became thick. I vaguely noticed Lissa reach out and grab Christian's hands. Lord, they had to feel so out of place right now.
"But I did survive the barren frontier."
"It isn't like that in Baia and you know that Roza!" Dimitri let a small grin show and grabbed my hands in his large ones. "Just tell me where you're going." He pleaded softly.
"Fine, fine. But don't get mad."
"I won't." I raised one eyebrow. "Okay, I won't get too mad."
"St. Petersburg."
"What-"
"No, don't start this hear." I said in a low voice as Dimitri's face became a shadow and he dropped my hands. "Alright, Dimka." I teased and rubbed his shoulder.
"Oh, look! Here comes the food." Lissa said in an upbeat voice. I knew what she was playing at after all this time of knowing her, and shot her a thankful look for it. The waitress then appeared out of the kitchen looking slightly confused, but had our meal.
Dimitri had ordered my meal perfectly since at that moment I craved a good cheeseburger. I ate it fast and nearly had my water gulped down when Christian chuckled.
"What?" I said in between bites of fries.
"I haven't even started eating." Christian gestured to his food sitting in front of him. It wasn't a very good fulfilling meal by my tastes, but I'd also eat anything. He had gotten a nutritional fruit salad with a tofu wrap. He should practically be a girl some times.
"And what's wrong with you not starting to eat yet?" I smirked as Christian frowned and muttered something about my distasteful eating habits under his breath.
Dimitri though seemed as if he hadn't dropped the topic of me and Lissa going to St. Petersburg with the amount of intensity that he stared at his food.
