The next morning brought on a new wave of sadness. I nearly felt like I was slipping into depression. I was alone with my thoughts and I could only think, 'What could I have done to prevent this?'

Dimitri had been against us going to begin with and I still foolishly went and tried to prevent him from going. If he would've stayed here he would've been safe... and would I have died since I didn't have his back up then?

I had decided upon waking up that I was going to spend the day in bed. I had woken up around 7 p.m. and rolled back over to go back to sleep. Around midnight, I heard the bedroom door open. I didn't have the motivation and energy to see who it was. I closed my eyes and tried to fall back asleep.

"Rose," It was a voice I hadn't heard in a long time. I actually had to sit up in bed to double check it was them.

"Mom?" I said. I was shocked to say the least. My mother, the one and only Janine Hathaway, was the last person on this Earth I'd expect to walk through that door.

"Hey sweetie." My mom walked around and sat on the edge of my bed. We had become closer in the recent months, but stuff that was meant to be comforting was still unusual.

"What are you doing here?" I asked in shock and hoped she wouldn't be too offended. Luckily, she took no offense and brushed a strand of hair behind my ear.

"Abe messaged me saying you need help. I know things are getting bad but me and your father are here to help." I leaned up and she stood up.

"Now get up." Her voice was stern. It reminded me of the time when she had lectured to my novice group. But Mason was still alive then, and me and Dimitri were still in hiding.

"Why?"

"Me and Abe have a plan." She said vaguely.

"That's it?"

"Just get out of bed!" Janine threw the sheets off my bed and swung my legs around.

"Mom, there's something you should know-" I tried to get her to slow her pace so I could explain my current situation.

"You're pregnant and spirit bound. Already know." She said nonchalantly. When I gave her a look of how-did-you-know she fessed up. "I talked to Lissa this morning and she told me everything."

"Wow, is Abe even at Court right now or are you just to make sure I'm not dead?"

"He's here. Now get your guardian suit on and meet me in the kitchen. Abe will be here in twenty minutes."

"But-"

"No butts out. I want it covered with your guardian suit." And with that final statement, Janine Hathaway walked out of the room.

When I emerged from my room fifteen minutes later after a shower, getting dressed, and fixing my hair and makeup, I was surprised to see Abe was here already.

"Rose!" Abe said in his usual boasting voice. Today he looked fairly down with black suit on and a grey scarf. It was far from his vibrant colors he normally wore.

"Dad!" I grinned and gave him a tight hug. I realized that whatever plan Abe had wasn't going to let me down.

"Wish I got a hug like that," Mom said under her breath. I smiled and gave her a hug as well.

"Better?" I asked. She nodded and sat on the couch in her momentary bliss that the three of us were together. Hating to be the one to break it, I got straight to the point. "So what's the plan?"

"Well," Abe started, "The first part is going to be your decision. To get Dimitri back do you want to risk the baby or not?"

That was a great way to start, I thought. Chose Dimitri or the baby?
