"Hey, Gumi? I need to ask you something," Gumo sighed as we pulled into the driveway of our house. He sounded concerned, and I was kind of worried about what he was going to ask.
"Yeah?"
He hesitated, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. "Did anything happen between you and Dad yesterday?"
My heart skipped a beat. Did he know? I didn't want to tell him, because I didn't want him to worry.
"No," I lied.
A blanket of silence enveloped us as I waited for him to say something. Did he believe me?
Gumo smiled at me, but I could tell it was forced. "Alright. We should probably get you packed now."
"Oh that's right! Come on!" I completely forgot about my dad, and raced out of the car, followed by Gumo. We went inside, and I went straight to my room. Grabbing my biggest travel bag, I shoved all my clothes in there, along with everything else I thought I needed.
I heard the roar of a car outside, causing Gumo to widen his eyes.
"We have to go, now," he said, his voice stern.
What was up with him? I grabbed my overstuffed bag and followed him outside to the back of the house. He held a finger to his mouth as a car door slammed. I didn't know why we were hiding, but I did as I was told.
We heard the front door open, and footsteps led to inside the house.
"Gumi? You here?" Dad called.
"We wanna talk," Mom added.
I looked over at Gumo, who shook his head, as if saying, 'don't respond'.
I nodded, and he quietly led me around the house and to his car. Mom and Dad stepped outside just as Gumo started the car.
"Gumo? Wait-" Dad started, but we were already driving away.
"What was that about?" I asked, looking behind me. The figures of my parents got farther and farther away, which was oddly relieving.
Gumo sighed. "I know you were lying when you said nothing happened yesterday. Guess what? They want to send you to a boarding school. Today. So that's why I'm driving you to Vocaloid Academy right now," he explained.
My mouth dropped. Boarding school? Did they really hate me that much?
"Luckily, the school is right by my college, so it wont take that long to get there," Gumo said.
I looked behind us again, seeing that my house was long gone. Trying not to think about my parents anymore, I started thinking about the academy. I smiled to myself. I was going to get to live my dream! I was going to be a Vocaloid! Gumo had said that it was near his college. He went to college here in my town, but I never knew the academy was also here.
We drove in silence for around 30 minutes, until I saw the academy in the distance.
"There it is!" I shouted, my excitement building up.
The academy was about the size of a regular college, except a lot more colorful. You could easily tell it apart from everything else around it! Even from where we were, I could hear loud music coming from the building.
We finally pulled into the parking lot, and Gumo sighed. "Wow, it's changed since I've been here."
I gaped at him. "You went here?"
"You still don't remember?" His eyes were full of concern, making me tilt my head in confusion.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
Gumo shook his head. "Nevermind. Let's go inside."
We got out of the car, but I still felt uneasy. Was I supposed to remember him coming to this school? I tried to recall anything, but my past was kind of a blur. I didn't remember much of anything before 14...Gumo said I had gotten into an 'accident', but when I asked him about it, he wouldn't tell me anything else.
I gasped, taking in everything I was seeing. Everything was bright and happy, colors varying from blue to green to purple. Vocaloids walked in and out of rooms, and I could hear some singing in the distance.
"This is amazing!" I breathed, still looking around. Gumo led me to what must have been the front office. A lady with long, black hair sat at a desk, going through papers. She stopped once she saw us walk in.
"Hello, I'm going to guess you're Gumi," she said, smiling at me. I nodded in response.
"I'm the principle of the school, Mrs. Ayame. Let me grab your schedule for you, and you can be on your way." She grabbed a sheet of paper from a drawer and handed it to me.
"Oh, and don't forget to stop by room 2104 for your uniform sometime today," she finished.
I said my thanks and left, Gumo still beside me.
"Alright, I better go, before my roommate realizes that I'm not actually at a doctor's appointment," Gumo said, winking.
That's my brother, alright!
I laughed. "Alright, I think I'll be fine from here. Good luck skipping class!" I cheered, waving to him as he left the building.
I sighed. "Room 2104, huh? Where's that?" I mumbled to myself, looking around. I was lost. Definitely lost.
I saw two guys walking down the hall, so I went up to them.
"Um, I'm new, can you help me find this..." I trailed off, realizing who I was talking to. It was the ice cream guy from earlier.
"Hey! You're the girl who gave me free ice cream!" he yelled, beaming.
"Well...I didn't actually give it to you, you know. That's what happens when you stare at people next to their car."
"Oh...I should do that more often then! Right, Yuma?" the boy asked his pink haired friend, but he didn't answer. He seemed to be staring at me.
"Yuma?" the blue haired boy called, waving his hand in front of Yuma's face, making him snap back to reality.
"Huh? Oh, sorry...you just...look like an old friend of mine," he said, "Anyways, what do you need help with?"
"Where's room 2104?" I asked.
"Follow us," Ice Cream Boy said, leading me down the hallway.
Are all students here this weird? I thought.
I'm using random names for the teachers here, so I can use the Vocaloids as students, by the way and I know it's kind of short. I promise next chapter will be better. Alright, bye now.
