"I can see what's coming. there ain't no use in running, we're setting like the sun. your twilight has begun."

21. drifting away

day XXI: wicked games

after dine and dashing at a local diner, Finn and I decided to star gaze for a while on the top of the roof top of the same building.

the stars sparkled like glitter as the small fire balls scatter themselves along the velvety skies. "ugh, this isnt nearly as cool as they make it seem in the movies. let's get out of here." i told finn, causing him to chuckle hysterically. "well, that escalated quickly." he stated, mimicking my actions in standing up nonetheless.

I watched as my steady feet take steps across the dusty gravel, my worn-out vans next to the newly purchased converse of the passing boy. a small smile crept upon my lips the longer i scoped the city. "hey," i called out to finn, resulting in him to turn swiftly on his heel soon enough. "yeah?" he asked.

"still got those gas bombs?" i asked the boy, mischievously. "i thought youd never ask."

...

"there. that old candy shop. let's just throw a couple smoke bombs, take what we want and leave, alright?" I asked Finn, wanting to make sure that he was in on the plan.

he nodded his head reluctantly. "but you gotta stay next to me, alright?" he asked me, sternly. "Finn, I'm not a ba-" "alright?" he snapped back, causing my smile to drop. I only nodded in agreement. "alright. let's get this over with." he stated before throwing on my beanie for me and taking me by the hand.

from there, we scattered across the roof top of the building directly across from the candy shop and began climbing down the ladder. once we reached the bottom, we made our way across the street and into the candy shop.

we stood around for a few minutes to blend in then, as soon as the big hand struck twelve, Finn and I made eye contact followed by an identical smirk just before he laughed his evil laugh, and before anyone knew it, he reached in his pocket, me doing the same.

and threw four smoke bombs in every corner of the room, leaving everyone to fall into their own cries of terror. they had no idea they were only smoke bombs. at least I thought they were...

i looked over at Finn, asking him why the bombs haven't gone off yet until his eyes widened suddenly. "Norah! those aren't the smoke bo-"

boom.

third person pov.

the entire building exploded in the matter of seconds. bricks crumbled to the floor in large pieces whilst the air fogged up with dust and dirt. Finn flew across the shop, his head slamming into the brick wall forcefully, leaving him unconscious for moments on end.

as for Norah, she was hit harder then anyone there. saying as though the actual bomb was thrown no more than a couple feet away from her. the impact threw he into the window, pieces of broken glass finding shelter in her soft skin.

she was then left on the ground, completely still, finding herself unable to move as a result of the candy shelf falling onto her small physique. she was then lost in her own thoughts, trying to figure out where it all went wrong.

it only took ten or so minutes for the boy to awaken from his forced slumber and stand up, immediately grasping the back of his head. the air was so polluted, it was almost impossible to see anything or anyone. but he made it work. he had to find Norah.

as he tried his absolute best to make it threw the rubbish, that used to be a delightful candy shop, he couldn't help but notice the dead bodies laying gracefully along the tiled floor. and he couldn't help but imagine seeing Norah as the next victim.
