I wake up to the sound of the soft, distinct crying of Jackson coming from another room.
I slowly move around to feel the silk sheets moving against my naked body. I quickly turn to see Adam's body nowhere in sight.
I slip out of bed and walk over to his dresser, grabbing a pair of boxers to slip on and a t-shirt since I can't find my clothes and I didn't feel like putting on that dress anyways.
I slowly open the door and follow the sound of crying to the living room where I see Adam walking back and forth on the hardwood as he is attempting to soothe the crying baby in his arms.
I walk up to the wall and lean against it, taking in the sight of the rarely relaxed Adam, letting his paternal instincts kick in.
"Need help there?" I ask and see Adam slowly turn around and face me with a smile.
"I told you that he acted like his mother," Adam replies with a teasing tone in his voice. "It's four A.M., what are you doing awake?" He asks with concern lacing his voice.
"Same thing as you, motherly instincts," I smile as I walk over to them. "That or I'm not deaf, I could hear my little baby crying," I smile as I reach out and grab my little boy from Adam's arms.
"You know, I've got to give it to you Athena," Adam says with a slight playfulness in his voice.
"Huh?" I ask as I walk over to the couch and sit down, continuing to rock Jackson back and forth.
"You look better in my clothes than I do," Adam says as he walks over and sits down on the couch next to me.
"I always have," I say playfully as I turn to face Adam as he places a soft kiss on my lips.
I smile as slowly pull away as Jackson's crying continues to get worse. "When is the last time that you fed him?" I ask Adam as I continue to rock Jackson back and forth.
"I was just trying to give him a bottle but he wouldn't take it, I know he's hungry though. It's been a while since he ate but he's refused to eat for the past few hours," Adam says and I can clearly hear the distress in his voice slipping through.
"Awwww, my poor baby," I say as I gently press a kiss onto Jackson's forehead. "Was my little man waiting for mommy?" I ask as I lift up the shirt and lift Jackson up to my breast.
I allow myself to release my breath as Jackson begins to feed as I begin to whisper soothing things along the lines of "thats right, you're doing great, I know baby, I know" and whatever.
Jackson for some reason loves to hear me talk whenever he's eating or falling asleep, really at any time and I have yet to know why.
"I love you," Adam suddenly says and I turn to see him staring at Jackson.
"I love him too, Adam," I say and smile at the sight of my kid. I made this little creature. I cooked him inside of me for nine months and I've got to say, I'm the proudest mother on the whole planet.
"We did good Athena," Adam says with a beaming smile.
"We made the most perfect being on the face of this Earth," I say with a smile and feel myself begin to fall asleep.
"God, I want to spoil him," Adam laughs and wraps his arms around me, making me lean against him.
"How long can this child eat for?" I say with a sigh as I feel sleep pulling at my eyelids.
Adam laughs and runs his hands up and down my arms.
"Hang in there for a few more minutes," he says and we sit in silence for the next few minutes until Jackson is done.
I then place Jackson back into his crib and I make my way back into Adam's bed and I lay down next to Adam.
I feel his arms wrap around my waist I am suddenly pulled against his chest.
"Athena," he says in a low, husky voice.
"Yes?" I ask, barely awake.
"I love you," he says and I can hear the smile in his voice.
"I love you too, Adam."
"We made the most perfect child on this Earth, you guys will always be my family."
"Adam, what if I get pregnant again? How will I support another child?"
"I? Athena, there is no more I anymore, it's going to be us from now on. You will never be alone, if you somehow get pregnant from tonight, I will pick up another job if I have to. I will do anything that it take for our family. Athena, I love you so fucking much."
"Adam, I love you too."
"Sleep, you'll need it. I'll drive you to school tomorrow and watch Jackson for the day. I have off tomorrow so after school, we can all go on a trip somewhere."
"Mmmmm, sounds fun," I say, still half awake.
"Athena," Adam says with the same level of grogginess.
"Yeah?"
"Why don't you and Jackson just move in?"
"Move in? I couldn't. What about Adelaide and Ethan?"
"I have a spare bedroom and an office. I could turn the office into a bedroom," he says with determination lacing his voice.
"I don't think that they would do it. What about all the furniture and the house. It's a big house with a ton of furniture, what if you move in?"
"I couldn't, I would feel bad."
"Why not? You could help out with Jackson more and I'm sure Adelaide could use a male figure in her life other than Ethan."
"Talk to Ethan and Adelaide first but for now, sleep."
"Okay," I say softly as I feel my eyelids quickly shut and I'm sent off into deep and dark sleep.
