Chapter 16- Day Trip

I wake up to the sound of an alarm clock and slowly sit up and look at my watch.

The time currently reads 6:00 and from the total darkness outside, I safely assumed that it meant in the morning.

I turn my head and look down to see that Adam is no longer in the bed so I stand up and carefully make my way into the connected bathroom.

I turn the light on and look at myself in the mirror for a few seconds. What have I become?

I know that Adam is the first man that I ever came to love and that we have a child together but am I that weak that I'm going to stop everything and have sex with him whenever.

I shake my head and turn around and go to the toilet, wash my hands, and wash my face. I walk out of the bathroom and into the living room to see Adam sitting with a cup of coffee at the island, typing away on his laptop.

"It's 6 in the morning and you're already on your laptop?" I ask as I step into the kitchen and grab a mug from the cabinet.

"What else should I be doing while waiting for you to wake up and for the little one. I have to finish my work somehow," he says as he stops typing and stands up, walking towards me.

"Are you sure that you want to take off today?" I ask as I pour myself a cup of coffee.

"I am," Adam says as he smiles and plants a soft kiss on my lips before walking away and sitting back down at the counter.

*After School*

The rest of the morning had been spent getting ready and preparing Jackson for Adam.

Adam even drove me home so that I could get changed and drove Ethan and Adelaide to school.

There was a bit of an awkward moment when Brendan saw me getting out of his car but I had ignored it and went along with my day.

"Athena," I heard Adam call as he pulled up to where I was standing and I entered the car.

"Hey," I say as I get in and turn around to see that Jackson was in his car seat. "Hello, my little man," I say sweetly to hear Jackson gurgling happily in response.

"How were classes?" Adam asks as he pulls out of the parking lot.

"Awful, can you believe that I only have a year till I'm legal?" I ask and take out my phone from my bag.

"I know, that means that in a year, we could legally get married," Adam says with a joking tone in his voice.

"Hah, yeah sure. Get me a ring first," I say, laughing.

"That can be arranged," Adam laughed and I playfully hit him in his arm.

"You suck, where are we going?" I ask and open my phone.

"It's a surprise that only me and Jackson know about."

"I hate surprises," I say with a sigh.

"I know, but you have to learn to trust me."

I laughed and turned on my phone to see that I have received a text from Brendan.

Brendan: So, I see you're back together with Adam... -3:02

Athena: Jealous? -3:03

Brendan: A bit. I mean, we did just spend that night together and you have already moved on. -3:03

Athena: Who says that I have moved on? -3:04

Brendan: Did you sleep with him? -3:04

Athena: You did not just ask that... -3:05

Brendan: I guess I have my answer then. -3:05

Athena: I'm sorry, I didn't know that we were exclusive. -3:06

Brendan: Well I'm sorry but I thought the fact that you might be the mother to my child might mean that we were exclusive. -3:07

Athena: ...you prick. -3:07

Brendan: What? What did I do now? -3:08

Athena: Oh nothing, you just really helped me make up my mind about something. -3:08

Brendan: What are you talking about? -3:08

Athena: Just that if I am pregnant and you're the father, I am sure as hell getting an abortion. -3:09

I send that last text and turn my phone completely off. I take and a deep breath and look down to see that my hands are shaking.

I turned to Adam to see that he had taken one hand off the wheel and entertained it with mine.

"I was originally going to take you to the zoo but I think that as a family, it might be better to take a trip to somewhere more relaxing," Adam says with a smile.

"Can we go to the state park?" I ask with a hint of joy being portrayed through my voice.

"Whatever you want," Adam says and changes the lanes the take the exit.

"Finally, I haven't been there in forever. Since Mom and Dad passed I think..." When I finished my phrase, I could feel Adam gently squeeze my hand.

"I love you, if you ever need to talk about anything, I'm here for you," Adam says and focuses his attention on driving.

This family was beginning to take the steps of becoming insane and accepting their fate.

I'm so sorry that this was such a short chapter but it's past midnight and I'm exhausted and I wanted to get out a chapter for you guys.
