Chapter 2-Life Struggles

I made my way out of the apartment building in an attempt to not be later than I already was. After getting into the car with Jackson and checking the time, it was already 8:11, meaning I was about fifteen minutes late already.

I started the car and pulled out, going back towards the school.

"Oh, Jack," I sighed to him as he cooed softly back. "What am I going to do with you?"

I decided to go to school and talk to the office about my options, at least show them the predicament that I was in.

About ten minutes later, I pulled into the schools parking lot and took Jackson out along with his diaper bag, my backpack, and the detachable part of his carseat. 

As I was walking through the parking lot, I saw one of my closest friends Jessica, walking out of the school.

"Hey, Jess," I called to her.

"Athena?" She questioned as she ran up to me. "What is Jackson doing here?" She whisper-yelled.

"I got into an argument with Adam and he called me a bitch, he took forever to answer the door and thought that I would love it if I heard him say I love you to me, like that would change anything."

"Okay, babe, breath." Jess said, taking the diaper bag from me. "What are you going to do now?"

"I don't know, talk to the office to see if they will let me take Jack to classes for today."

"My second period is a study hall so I can take him then so that you can take your pre-calc test and then I'll give Jack back to you after lunch."

"Jess, I can't ask you to do that."

"Hey," she said reaching out for a hug. "That's what godmothers are for." She laughed and grabbed my arm, pulling me towards the building. "I'll walk to you to the office and help you get into contact with Principal Howards."

"Thank you Jess, I love you so much."

"Love you too, that's why I'm here after all." I smiled at Jackson and he giggled, reaching for me. We walked towards the front door and a teacher standing nearby opened the door for me.

"Athena," she said. "Who's this?" Gesturing towards Jackson and smiling at him, reaching out for his reaching hands.

"My son... But please don't tell the others that, just tell them that it's my cousin if they ask, please."

"Athena, I didn't know that you were pregnant."

"That was kind of the point Mrs. Henry. I didn't want others to know and thankfully, I barely gained weight during my pregnancy other than in the last few moths which were during summer break." I said quietly.

"Athena, why is he here?" She asked seriously.

"Well, I was supposed to drop him off at his father's and we got into an argument and I," I said as I began to tear up. "I took him back, I didn't trust him, he's never there, he doesn't know Jackson like I do and-"

"Shh," Mrs. Henry said pulling me into an embrace, "it's alright. Let me go get Principal Howards. Go to my classroom and Jess, go with her too.  I'll be there in a few minutes."

"I'm fine, it's fine I can go myself."

"No," Mrs. Henry said turning me towards her classroom. "Now, quick before people begin to question."

I turn to walk but before I do, Jess takes my backpack from me so I only have to carry Jackson.

As we walk past the boys bathroom, the door opens and Ethan walks out and heads straight towards us.
