“Megan, turn the radio down.” Brad said as he turned up his iPod. I pulled one of his earphones out and began singing.
'Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight...'
He looked at me like I was crazy. “Your such a loser.” he said laughing.
“Whatever, you know you like my singing.” I said punching him in the arm.
We were both giggling, and then we went past a sign that said 'Welcome To Missouri'. Brad stopped laughing immediately. I looked at him for a minute then ruffled his hair.
“Everything is gonna be okay.” I said trying to make him feel better.
“Why aren't you sad? That's our home...our home, and we just left it to move hundreds of miles away.”
“Brad you should be excited! Living in warm weather all the time. Swimming, beaches, you can play sports any time of the year.”
“I know but...”
“What are you worried about?”
“What if I don't make any friends?” he said looking down as if he were embarrassed.
“Brad, the first day, your going to have the whole school as your friend. Everyone is going to want to be your friend, and all the girls are going to be fighting over you.”
“You think so?”
“I know so, I mean who wouldn't wanna be friends with a kid like you.” I said smiling at him.
He nodded. “Thanks Megan.”
“Your welcome.”
**
Most of the ride was silent. We had little conversations here and there, but mostly it was him and his iPod and me and my radio. When we pulled up to the new house, Brad just looked at it with sad eyes. I got out of the car and ran to his side. I opened his door and pulled him out.
“Come on, let's go explore.”
“Fine. Let's go.” he said showing a small smile.
We walked into the house. The first thing we saw was a great big living room. Next to that was the kitchen. We walked outside on the back porch to look at the underground pool and the fenced in backyard.
After we looked all over the downstairs, we raced upstairs to pick out rooms.
“I want this one!” he said running into the bigger room.
“You wish.” I said opening the door to the other room. “This is your room.”
He sighed and walked through the door. “Eh, I guess it's not that much smaller.”
“Right” I said.
“Kids!” we heard our dad scream from downstairs. “Come on, lets unload the truck.”
**
After what seemed like forever of unloading, the truck was finally empty. I took all my boxes up to my room and started decorating. It was like 3:00a.m. But I didn't care. I needed to get this done, so tomorrow I could go to the store and get all the things I needed. I started school in three days, so that meant I have three days to become a new person.
**
I finished my room around 5:00a.m. and after i passed right out. I woke up the next day at 1:00p.m.. I couldn't believe I slept in so late. I quickly got up, brushed my teeth, got dressed, then ran downstairs.
“Where are you going?” my mom said as she was setting up the kitchen.
“Uhm, I'm going to explore. I'll be back later.”
“Okay, honey.”
**
It took me a long time to find beauty store, but eventually I did. First I went to the hair dye section. I stood their looking at the colors. 'Blonde, dark brown, light brown, dirty blonde, red...' I read aloud to myself. I was staring at them for a while when a worker came by.
“Red” she said simply.
“Excuse me?”
“I see you as a beautiful red head.”
I grabbed the hair dye box and looked. “Really?”
“Yes. Please trust me.”
I looked back at all the colors and then at the box. “Okay.” I said finally.
“Anything else?” she asked
“Yes, I need a straightener.”
“Oh, right this way” she said leading me into a different isle.
I didn't say anything, I just followed her. “Here, the best we have is this one right here” she said handing a straightener to me.
“Okay, then this is the one I'll get. Thank you.”
She nodded and walked away. I went to the counter to check out. After I left that section of the store, I went to the make-up section.
The manager there helped me get all my right colors. I got every make-up product known to man. From eyeliner to primer to eye shadow to cover up and everything in between. I was all set.
