I got home and carried all my stuff upstairs. I put all my make up on my desk, then I went to the bathroom to do my hair. I applied the dye everywhere. When it was finally time to wash it out, I couldn't wait to see what it looked like.

I got our of the shower and dried my hair. I avoided the mirror until I was done. I closed my eyes and braced myself. I turned on the light to my room and walked up to my wall mirror.

“Oh my god.” I said allowed. “It looks...great.”

Just then my mom walked in. “Megan do you-” she stopped in the middle of her sentence. “What did you do to your hair?!”

“I dyed it.” I said simply.

“Well yes, I can see that! But why?”

“I needed a change.”

“And your wearing your contacts? You never wear them.”

“I know, but I need to get used to them before school starts because I will be wearing them from now on.”

“Sweetie.” she said walking up to me. “What's going on?”

“Nothing, I just needed a change.”

Just then she looked over to my desk. “Where did all that come from?”

“I bought it.”

“Do you even know how to put make-up on? You have never worn any.”

“Oh my god. Yes mom, I do. Can you go away.”

She looked at me...as if her little girl was gone. Then she nodded and walked out.

The truth is, I really never have worn make up, or straightened my hair for that matter, but I did know how to. I spent a lot of my time learning how to do it, just in case I ever needed to. I would practice, but rub it off before anyone ever saw it.

I sat down in my chair, set the mirror on my desk and got to work. I straightened my hair to perfection...honestly I couldn't believe how straight I got it. Then I did all my make up. After I was finished I looked in the mirror.

“Wow, I look great.” I said to myself.

“Dinner!” I heard my mom scream.

A small smile came to my face. Here we go, the start of my new life.

I walked down the stairs slowly. My parents and Brad were already at the table eating. “Whats for dinner?” I said as I walked in. They all looked up at my with their mouths open. No one said anything.

I walked over to the stove and made my plate. “Yum, spaghetti.” I turned to face them again. They were still gawking at me. Finally my dad spoke.

“Bud, what...what did you do?”

“What do you mean dad?” I said setting my plate down

“You look so...so different.”

I smiled at that. “Thanks” I said, then I took a bite of my food. It was silent for a couple minutes, then everyone just went back to eating. After dinner I went back up to my room. Brad came in a bit later.

“So, whats going on with you?” he said right as he opened the door.

“What? You don't like my new look?”

“I didn't say that...it's just...it's so not you.”

“No, it isn't the old me, but this is the new me.”

“...New you?”

“Yep.”

“But why?”

“Because, here I'm going to be somebody, not just the schools geek.”

“So your changing yourself completely.”

“My look doesn't define me.” I said

“But your look isn't the only thing your going to change is it?”

I didn't say anything. I just sat there. He nodded. “Love ya sis. I'm going to bed.”

“Kay.” I said and he walked out. I would have answered him, I really would have...but I didn't know the answer. Was this new look going to make a new me...? I mean I hoped it would...but was it really going to? I guess I'll find out in two days.

I turned off my light and crashed down on my bed. All I could think about while I was falling asleep was that the new me is going to be amazing, she's not going to be the invisible loser the old Megan Murphy was...that I knew for sure.
