When I got to school the next morning, Jake was no where to be found so I just went to my locker and headed to science. I walked in the door to see the majority of the class was still outside talking, so I put my book down and I turned around to walk out the door when Eric stepped in front of me.
“Hey.” He said
“Hi,” I smiled at him. “What’s up? Have you seen Jake today?”
“Um, no he’s going to be a little late today because of car troubles.”
“Oh,” I said surprised “I wish he would’ve texted me, I would’ve given him a ride.”
“Yeah, I actually want to ask you something.”
“Okay…” I said curiously “What?”
“Well yesterday after I left, Jake texted me and told me you guys kissed.”
“Oh, he did?” I said, not sure what I should think about that.
“Yeah, he did…so I was kind of wondering…does this mean you’re unavailable?”
“What do you mean Eric?”
“I mean…are you guys dating?”
“Oh!” I exclaimed. “No, we just kissed because of a bet, we aren’t together…I’m sure he could find someone better.” I sounded a little more upset than I meant to.
Eric began to smile. “I’m really happy you said that, because I was wondering if you wanted to hang out tonight and get to know each other…” he paused in the middle of his sentence then continued “Maybe we could even call it a date.”
A grin began to form on my face, I hadn’t even been at this school for long and already I was being asked out. This was all very new to me, but I wasn’t going to let this slip through my fingers, especially when Eric seems like such a nice guy. But what about Jake? I thought to myself, and then quickly pushed it away. We only kissed for a bet, he wouldn’t care at all I told myself and then I put my attention back on Eric.
“Yeah, I mean sure, I’d like that”
“Great! I’ll pick you up at 7?”
“Sounds good.” I said just as the bell ring and the classroom started to flood with people. I sat down and tried to concentrate, but all I could think about was the fact that my first date was going to be tonight.

School seemed to take forever. I felt like I was in my classes for hours before the final bell finally rang. I still hadn’t seen Jake, I guess in Florida ‘a little late’ meant not coming at all. I shrugged it off and said I’d talk to him later. I got in my car and sped home; I had a date to get ready for.
I walked into the house, but didn’t say a word to anyone. I went right upstairs to my room to pick the right outfit. I had only picked out my shirt when my phone rang. I picked it up and saw that it was a text from Jake.
“Hey…Eric just called me and told me you guys are going out tonight?”
“Yeah, he asked me at school today J and by the way I would’ve given you a ride, all you have to do is ask next time”
"
Why would you say yes?!”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean…I thought that the kiss you gave me the other night meant something…guess you’re just like all the other tricks at our school”
“I kissed you for the bet, it meant nothing to me and even if it did to you, you didn’t say anything so you can’t be mad at me for going out with Eric, but I can be mad at you for calling me a trick. You don’t know me and thanks to that message you never will. Dick.”
After I sent him that last text, I sat on the bed for an hour waiting for him to text back and apologize, he never did. I reread the message I sent to him and I kinda wished I wouldn’t have been so mean, but I have never been called something like that before and it hurt me. Honestly I had hoped the kiss meant something to him, because it did to me, but I forced myself to believe that it didn’t mean anything and now after that text it doesn’t matter.
I threw my phone on the bed and kept looking for clothes to wear. It was almost 7 and I was all ready to go out. I went downstairs and sat on the couch. When the doorbell rang I kissed my parents good bye and told them id be home later. I didn’t really want them to meet Eric because I wasn’t sure how those things worked, so I just ran out the door.
“Hey beautiful” he said
“Hi.” I said blushing
“You look great. Ready to go?” he asked
I didn’t say anything, I just nodded. “Great,” he said as he opened the car door. “Lets go.”
