I hear the door open with a click. Nick must be back from the meet and greet for students. Ever since I ran into his "perfectly conceited fiancee", I'd been trying to google her non-stop. Not that it was any of my business to know who she was anyway.  Unless of course, she came back from "Cali". Cue instant eye roll. I close the lid of my laptop, feeling for my phone to text Natalie. As soon as I'm about to send her an SOS message, Nick comes knocking on my door.

"Hey." He says, he looks as if he got hit by a train. Probably from all the chaos that took place at the meet and greet.

"Um... Oh.. Hey, I didn't hear you come in." I lie, setting my phone down and clutching at one of my pillows. I don't know why I lied, it must be my antisocialism kicking in at interacting with another human being when I expected to be alone for awhile.

"Oh.. Okay... Well, look there's something you need to know.." He cringes like it's almost painful for him to explain. He runs a hand through his dark hair, looking extremely tired, his sleeve of his sweater falling a little bit around his wrist.

"If it's about your fiancee, I already know. She stopped by while you were gone." I loosen the grip on my pillow, allowing it to fall into my lap and I rub my hand back and forth across it.

"You met Veronica?" He asks, and eyebrow quirked up in confusion.

"Yes, I met "Veronica". Might I say she is very... Overprotective." It takes everything I have to not roll my eyes. Even though I despise Nick and his perfectly perfect fiancee, I still need to show some respect if we're ever going to actually get along. Which is highly doubtful, but hey, can't be afraid to try.

He chuckles a little bit, his mouth quirking up at the corners. He's leaning against the door frame, relaxed now. It's weird how quickly he can change his moods. From tired to relaxed. Annoyed to amused. Sarcastic to... well, plain asshole.

"You could definitely say that I guess." A runs a hand over his face, stilling sporting the sheepish grin.

"Yeah, so, that's all she wanted me to say." I say awkwardly, not really sure of what else I'm supposed to say.

"Okay." He replies curtly nodding his head. He drums his fingers on the doorway, still standing there as if waiting for me to say something else.

"Did you need anything?" I question, tilting my head to the side a little bit. As I do this some of my curly hair falls from the messy bun on top of my head. I see his eyes follow the piece of hair and it makes me want to immediately fix it.

"Oh, no. Sorry." He says as he turns to leave.

"Surprising." I murmur under my breath. He turns back around, looking at me quizzically.

"Did you say something?"

"Oh no! I didn't." I feel my face flush.

"Mhm.." He squints his eyes at me, studying me.

"What? I said nothing!" I shrug, my face continuing to flush against my will.

"You're acting strangely." He tilts his head to the side, taking a step into my room.

"Hey! I didn't say you could come in here. This is the only space I get to my self." I wave my hands at him. He puts his hands up with another sly grin on his face and backs up.

"Fine fine. But if you need anything, I'm going to be out in the kitchen." He turns to leave for the second time. This time he actually does exit my room, closing the door behind him. As soon as it's closed, I sigh with relief. My heart, for some reason, seems to be beating ten times faster than usual. How odd.

My phone buzzes, I go to pick it up, a text from Natalie.

Call me Bitch.

I snicker, this can only mean one thing. Natalie is planning something.

I hit dial next to her contact name, which is BBFF. Best Bitch Friend Forever. The phone rings for just a second until Natalie picks up.

"Mel! You won't believe what just happened!" She squeals into my ear.

"Whoa, Nat. Calm down what is it?" I try to calm her down while also smiling myself.

"Okay, okay, okay! So you know the frat house Kappa Sigma?!" She's tried to quell her excitement but I can tell she's really struggling.

"You mean the one that's over up on the hill?" I ask, putting my hand on my chin.

"Yes! Well, guess what!?" She whispers excitedly.

"What?" I chuckle, continuing to smile.

"They're having a party this Saturday! It's going to be LIT AF!" She says, putting emphasis into the "lit AF" part of her sentence.

"Nat, we're in our first week of college, shouldn't we be like, I don't know, touring? How the hell did you find out there was going to be a party?"

"Because! My roommate's brother is in the fraternity! She'll know whenever there will be a party!" She explains, trying to not be annoyed at my accusations.

"Ohh okay... That sounds accurate." I replied rolling my eyes a little.

"Will you please please PLEASE go with me?! You will need to get out and meet new people. Besides I'm not letting you stay cooped up in that apartment with that asshole for the entire year!"

"But Natalie, it's the first week."

"Exactly that's why it'll be loads of fun!" I hear her sigh over the phone.

"What is it?"

"I want us to remember this year. I won't be able to do that without spending it with my best friend doing dumb shit. Come on Mel, please. I'm begging you. I promise you won't have to go to every single party just this one for now. Please!" I can almost imagine her pleading with her eyes.

"Alright fine I'll go. But I'm going to complain the whole time." I sigh, as I hear her laugh.

"Thanks, Mel! You won't regret it!" She squeals.

"Uh huh. Bye Nat." I can't help but laugh.

We hang up at the same time, I grab the pillow again and hold it close to my chest.

Will this year really be something to remember?

Hopefully.
