"Hurry your slow ass up!" Natalie screeches from her car with the window down. Her auburn hair almost glowing in the light of the sun setting down over the hill. I walk as quickly as I can over to her car and open the door, sliding into the familiar seat.

"So, how is captain Grumpy Gorgeous?" She asks, waggling her eyebrows at me.

"Captain Grumpy Gorgeous?" I raise my eyebrows, clearly impressed with this new nickname she has given to Nick.

"Yeah, could call him Captain GG for short." She snorts, pulling her hair into a low ponytail and cranking her windows down.

"Let's not," I reply, laughing.

"Party pooper, better not be like that tonight though! We each need to make good impressions on our fellow classmates, and being a party pooper is not going to do that, Melanie Anita Rider." She pulls out of parking space and onto the road, cranking her music up loud. I roll my eyes, grinning carelessly, as I reach over and also change the song.

We drive for what seems like ten seconds before we reach her dorm building, a short, stocky brick building with white windows. Some with questionable banners hanging up in them. Natalie turns the car off and gestures for me to follow when she gets out of the car. She leads me down a couple of slim hallways that all look exactly the same until she stops before her own dorm room.

"Heather! Open up, it's me, Nat!"  She says, knocking on the door. It's not even a second before the door flies open and we're met with a tall, freckled, lanky blonde girl.

"God, I thought you'd never get back." She says, grinning from ear to ear. "Hi, I'm Heather, you must be Melanie, right?"

"Yeah, that's me," I say, not knowing what else to say and feeling really antisocial and awkward at the same time.

"Well, don't just stand there, come on in," Heather says, giggling as she opens the door wider for the two of us to step inside.

Natalie automatically goes to plop down on her bed, which is unkempt and unmade. Totally not surprising.

"Do you want anything to drink Melanie?" Heather asks me, opening up their mini fridge. Inside it is stocked with a couple of cheap beer cans and a single slice of cheese unopened. Nutritious.

"Oh no, I'm good," I say, waving my hands.

"Mel, isn't much of a drinker," Natalie huffs from her bed, "literally I tried to get her to go with me to parties in high school, she never wanted to come. Not once, no matter how many times I asked."

"Oh Jesus, well that's gonna have to change. We're getting smashed tonight!" Heather whoops, grinning at Natalie and me.

"Yeah... Woot woot." I say, half-heartedly fist bumping. Heather and Natalie look at each other, non verbally communicating.

"Yeah, see that's not gonna fly tonight, Mel," Natalie says, pointing at me.

"Yeah, you gotta get lit tonight. It's the only real way to have fun at a party like the ones my brother's frat does." Heather argues.

"Okay, I'll try. It'll just take me some time to get... you know... lit." I shrug, not meeting their eyes.

"Okay!" Natalie squeals, "I can live with that, but you'll probably be a lightweight, so just go a bit easy on the drinks, okay?"

"And make sure to watch your drink!" Heather points out, "You never know, there's sometimes creepy, nasty guys around campus just looking to get some."

"Thanks. I'll keep that in mind." I cringe.

"Alright, now let's start getting ready bitches!" Natalie says, rubbing her hands together and smiling madly.
