∞ Agenor's POV ∞
Pirates are the devils' allies.
They reject the principles of the human world and instead adopt those that serve their own self-interest. Their code of honor and fame is based on strength, rule, and the number of bodies they leave behind. They are masters of deception and trickery, with those who are most treacherous rising to the top. Their loyalty lies not with people but with gold and treasures, and they will do whatever it takes to obtain them, even if it means harming others. Greed is the driving force behind their desires, and they have no qualms about crushing other pirates or anyone else who stands in their way of obtaining what they want. To be a pirate, one must abandon all ties to the land and embrace a ruthless way of life that places one's fate in the hands of the Gods of the sea.
If one wishes to rule these devils, they must possess much greater levels of deceit, power, and cunning than their fellow pirates. They must be consumed by greed, and their desires must surpass the lives of all others. Only then will other devils respect them, remain loyal, and devote themselves to their leader's cause. But there are no guarantees in this world, and the moment they sense weakness in their captain, their devotion will begin to wane. For a pirate captain, weakness is the ultimate enemy, and fame is the key to obtaining wealth and glory.
My crew believes in me more than I believe in them, and I believe that's the way it should be. As my followers, their lives are at risk every time we set sail. Their lives are disposable to Martina. If they live or die, Martina gloriously keeps on sailing. As their captain, however, I am indispensable. I'm Martina and Martina is me. I am the heart of the spider, and my crew is useless without me. All of this, pirates know and abide by; all of this, they accept once they step into our hell.
Pirates are the devils' allies. As we live, we pile deeds worth banning us from any possible afterlife paradise hundreds of times. For those who believe, if we succeed in a raid or find a rare treasure we thank the gods, and we know deep inside that since they helped us then they're the gods of hell. The good gods have long forsaken our black souls. We might call upon them or pray for them, but we know that the chances of redemption are slim. The truth is, none of us is sure that the other side's still listening. For being the devils' allies, we expect the good Gods to abandon us, and we accept it.
Recently, I have been questioning my beliefs. Are the so-called 'good' Gods truly good, or are they simply seeking a truce? My doubt stems from the fact that an innocent and pure angel was sacrificed. The Gods picked the most innocent and well-intentioned angel and chose to torment and torture him, seemingly for their own amusement. To make matters worse, they banished him from paradise and pushed him to the edge of heavens, and they watched as he ultimately fell into hell. Shockingly, the Gods did nothing to prevent this from happening. Perhaps they intended this as a peace offering, but it could also be as simple as a massive blunder. For once, the heavens were on the side of a pirate.
