∞ Nyx's POV ∞

I stood on the deck, arms wide open, embracing the breathtaking view and inhaling the refreshing scent of the sea. The sky boasted a beautiful shade of blue, adorned with a few gentle clouds that occasionally tempered the sun's scorching rays. As the wind blew strongly across the deck, I eagerly welcomed its touch once again. With the weather back on our side, the Martina gracefully sailed through the playful waves.

"Mate! Finally free, are we?" Maren's loud thump and a firm pat on my shoulder announced his arrival on the forecastle. I straightened my back and greeted him with a smile, "Yes, those three days were unbearable, believe me."

He huffed and raised his eyebrows, "Fucking awful! Are you kidding me? It gave me nightmares, mate."

His insinuation caught my attention, and I inquired, "Why? Did something happen?"

"Oh, nothing! It was just hot and... you know, stupid chores."

I teased him, "I thought you considered yourself above doing chores around here?"

"Aye, I'm up on the mast, mate, free as a bird with no one to control me!" He proudly declared, but his tone quickly shifted to concern as he touched my forehead. "I heard you had a fever or something. Are you okay, mate?"

"I'm better now."

"Well, it was quite a performance that day, beating pirates and challenging everyone on the Martina. Gods, it was amazing to watch, my friend."

"Amazing...? Maybe for you, but honestly, I was terrified."

He laughed heartily, "Heh, well, that's probably what got you sick, mate."

"I think it's more the dreadful smell that invaded the cabin. It started two days ago and kept getting stronger... What the hell was that, by the way?"

"H-How would I know!? Don't ask me! I was just as bothered by it as you!"

"It's really strange. I've never encountered such a foul smell at sea, even with land nearby... It was disgusting yet oddly intriguing. Hey, since this is your territory, Maren, do you know if it always smells that bad in this area? Do you know if-"

"I DON'T KNOW!" Maren's emotional response caught me off guard. He averted my gaze, cleared his throat, and quickly changed the subject with a calmer tone. "Um... I wanted to visit you, mate, but they said Britt went to the cabin uninvited, and the captain threw a fit. It sounded strange coming from Britt, but whatever."

"They blamed it on Britt? These pirates have no sense of honesty."

He laughed boisterously, "Honest pirates? That's a good one, mate. The day there's an honest pirate is the day we fish a cow out of the sea!"

He patted my back while laughing, making me feel a bit foolish. Afterward, he leaped off the forecastle, declaring his intention to fetch us some apples. Well, good luck persuading Baril to part with them from the galley.
