Only Just Getting Started (Adopted by Shisa)

Chapter 17

A/N: The recipes in this chapter are real and they taste amazing. You should try them! :)

I wake up at 8:00 and go on the internet for about half an hour. Then I go out to the kitchen and make myself some breakfast. I sit down at the table and start eating. Lisa comes out as I am washing up my plate. 

"Morning"

"Hey Lisa"

"Have you checked your ingredients yet?"

"No. I'll do it now"

"Ok sweetie"

I go into the cupboard and the fridge listing a couple of things that I will need. Lisa tells me to go get ready while she finishes breakfast. I watch Tv while she gets ready then we go to the grocery store. We get the stuff I need and head back home. Lisa goes to do some work in the office while I make my brownies.

I start by preheating the oven to 190 and lining a pan with baking paper. Then I heat 200g of chopped butter, 200g of dark chocolate and 1 cup of brown sugar in a saucepan over low heat. Stirring it constantly until everything is mealted and the mixture is smooth. I take it off the heat and pour it into a bowl. Then I leave it to cool down a bit while I measure out the other ingredients. Once the mixture is cool, I add 3 lightly beaten eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and mix well. Then I sift 3/4 of a cup of plain flour (gluten free flour can be used) and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder into the mix and combine everything. I pour it into the tray and cook it for about 20 minutes. After I pull it out of the oven, I leave it to cool for about 20-30 minutes and then lift the whole thing onto a cooling rack. 

Once I get the dishwasher going, I go to the office.

"Hey Lisa"

"Hey how are the brownies?"

"Good. It's all on a cooling rack and I'll cut it up into the actual pieces later on"

"Sounds good"

"Hey um I was wondering, would I be able to do a Dare Wednesdays video with you and Shane one day soon?"

"Yeah of course! We can film one sometime over the next couple of days for next week"

"Ok sounds good"

"I only have a little bit more work to do and then we'll go out for lunch and enjoy our last girl time before Shane gets home"

"Righteo. I'll just go watch Tv. Come on Corny"

I sit down on the couch and turn the Tv on. I flick throught the channels before finding a channel playing The Amazing Spiderman (Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone of course). Corny goes crazy for a little while before settling down on my lap and letting me pet her. Lisa comes out about 15 minutes before the end of the movie and I beg her to let me finish watching it so she just goes to the bathroom to "freshen up". We end up at Subway again for lunch and it tastes amazing. After we go home we have a lazy afternoon and Shane calls us while he's at the gate waiting for his plane. Lisa leaves about an hour before Shane's plane is due in because the traffic is likely to be pretty heavy and we agree that she'll text me when they're leaving the airport so I can get going on dinner. After Lisa leaves I go have my shower and get changed into my pjs. I sit down at the table and finish and edit my vlog and set it to upload. Then I plug my phone into the speakers and blast my music. I dance around the loungeroom singing along at the top of my lungs and Corny goes crazy. Normally I wouldn't do this but since there's nobody around I don't really care. I check Twitter and see Shane tweeting about just landing. I favourite it and tweet him.

I give Corny some food and start getting the ingredients out for mac n cheese. Sure enough I get a text from Lisa pretty soon saying they had just left the carpark. I wait another couple of songs before I get started because dinner doesn't take very long to make. 

I preheat the oven to 180 and half fill a saucepan with water and put it on to boil. Once it is boiling, I pour in about 2 cups of macaroni. Then I combine 2 teaspoons of ground mustard powder, 4 teaspoons of flour and a bit of pepper in a small bowl. I measure out 500mL of milk and 2 cups of grated cheese. Once the macaroni is cooked, I strain it and put in back in the saucepan. Then I put it back on the heat and add the milk, 4 teaspoons of butter and the flour mixture. I stir it until everything is combined and bring it to a boil. I take it off the heat and add the cheese then stir until it is all mixed in. I transfer the mixture into a oven safe dish and sprinkle the top with more grated cheese and some breadcrumbs. I put it in the oven for about 15 minutes and when I pull it out it smells amazing.

Shane and Lisa get home while I'm setting the table and I have my back turned so I don't notice them. I'm singing along to Superluv as loud as possible when I hear another voice. I turn around and Shane is singing as well. I freeze and go bright red for a couple of seconds before running up to him and giving him a big hug.

"Shane!"

"Hey how are you?"

"I'm good. Glad you're home"

"Me too. Now Lisa said dinner would be ready when we got here"

I roll my eyes. "Go put your suitcase in the bedroom and I'll dish it up"

By the time he gets out dinner is on the table and Lisa and I have sat down. I wait for them to have a mouthful before I try it myself.

"Charlie this is amazing"

"I agree it is really good. You should actually eat it"

I smile and thank them before digging in. They're right. It does taste pretty damn amazing. Over dinner we just catch up on everything and once I've finished eating, I cut up the brownie. I put 6 pieces on a plate and microwave them for a few seconds so they're warm. Then grab three bowls and put one scoop of ice-cream as well as two brownies in each. I grab 3 spoons and go back to the table. I wait for them again and when I get their "approval" I start eating and am very satisfied with my cooking. After dinner, I load the dishwasher while Shane goes and showers. After he comes back out Lisa goes to take her shower. Shane and I sit down on the couch and put on an episode of American Idol. I sit close to him and rest my head on his shoulder. It feels so good to have him back home, even though it was only 3 days.

"I missed you, dad"

"Awww I missed you too Charlie"

He puts his arm around me and I smile. I could get used to this whole parent thing. Lisa comes back from her shower, Corny running along behind her. She sits down on the other side of Shane and he wraps his other arm around her and she snuggles up to him. They share a quick kiss and turn their attention back to the Tv. Corny curls up on Shane's lap and falls asleep almost straight away. Lisa grabs her phone and we take some family selfies. She sends the photos to me and Shane. Lisa Instagrams one of the photos with the caption "Reunited :)". We watch another episode of American idol and by the time that finishes it's about 10:30. We get up off the couch and turn everything off. We walk down the hallway and stop at the end to say goodnight. Then Shane and Lisa go into their room and I go into mine. I put up one of our photos on Instagram and caption it "Family :) <3". I go on YouTube and watch a few videos and then turn my computer off. I check Twitter and Instagram before I go to bed. I see that Shane has put up one of the photos as well. He captioned it "Back with my girls. I missed them". I smile at that. He really is a big softie. I lock my phone and go to sleep feeling very happy.
