CHAPTER NINE
After hearing that Chief Daysman had offered her and her family an adventurous opportunity. Mama Uka hummed up and down the house but in a perturbed mode. What could she have probably done to be worthy of such benevolent act from the Chief.
To her what she did was nothing, but to the chief and his wife, it was an incredible save.
Ngo busied herself gathering and organizing all of her toys and hoped her mother let her bring all of them along. She was ecstatic. Her thoughts were overflowing but the one that stood out to her was all the fun she would have playing and goofing around with the white kids.
She watched them on television and had always wondered how remarkably cool it would be if she could one day touch their fine silky skin, but her thoughts were about to be a clean reality in less than twenty four hours.
''Chei! Na so una wan leave us ooo. Mama Uka. Kai! Wetin I go do without you ooo ooo.'' Mama Tochi, unannounced, with only a wrapper tied to her chest barged into their home.
''But God go bless that man. I say God go bless am for me.'' She paused for a second and asked.
''But how the thing take happen naw?'' She asked.Mama Uka recalled to her how she helped Chief Daysman and his wife to solve their childless situation after thirteen years of unfruitfulness.
Chief Daysman's wife visited Mama Uka's shop at Kakuri. She made her know how she was in desperate need of a child. Mama Uka was quick to introduce Chief Daysman's wife to her All Christian Practical Prayer Life Church.
''So he decided to send my children and I to an all expense paid trip abroad. Even when I turned down his offer he wouldn't take it, so here we are, getting ready for our flight which leaves in about three hours.'' Mama Uka said happily as she left Mama Tochi and went back into the room to pack more of her and Ngo's clothes to the sitting room where four suitcases where lying around on the red rug.
''Ukaa a. Kedigi? Osiso. Be quick about it.'' She called out.
Uka ran to her holding up shoes to her face.''Mba! Not these ones. I asked for those italo Italian ones I kept under you people's bed. Ngwa ngwa.'' Mama Uka clapped her hands. Uka went off quickly to do as she was told.
Mama Tochi sat down with the boys who watched their mother pack their stuffs with so much nerves and they clearly acted like they weren't excited about their one week vacation.
''Obodoyibo here I come. Obodo..yibo here I come.'' Uju and Uka sang endlessly.
''Kpoi Kpoi o!''
A voice was heard and even though the door was wide open; the red and white striped curtain provided a shield.
''Who's there?'' Mama Uka asked.
''Ahhh. Ameria Jojo.'' Said Mama Uka as she finally saw who pushed through the curtains.
Ameria Jojo was only three and half months pregnant but she appeared as if she was six months gone.''Good afternoon ma.'' She half kneeled as she greeted.
''Ehyaa. I can see you people are almost ready. My husband and I will miss all of you o.'' Said Ameria Jojo as she scanned with her eyes; suit cases and clothes lying around the sitting room.
